I have 2 cans of beer in my fridge that are now rock hard like they are frozen or ready to explode. Any idea what may be causing this? Moved them to a different spot in the fridge in case I had a weird spot freezing beers.

There are probably two options here -- the beer is frozen, or it has an infection that has created so much pressure that the can feels hard. I have not heard of any infected beers in cans yet to know how the can reacts, but it would seem to me that the sides would bow out a bit if it was high pressure inside, thus I'll vote for frozen. If that's the case, just allow the beer to thaw in a warmer section of the fridge.

Churchkey Pilsner (made by Two Beers, I think), packaged on old-school churchkey-only cans, was prone to continued in-can fermentation. My local beer store had a whole case of the stuff explode.

I just threw them out. I don't want to risk ruining everything else in my fridge. I actually noticed a couple of the cans of this particular batch of beer seemed a little off (i.e. they were abnormally soft/semi-empty feeling.)

You could have just opened one outside in case it did explode. If they just frozen then you got a beer slurpee. Plus, then you would know why the cans were hard like that.

I notice the stuff in the very back of my fridge tends to freeze. Seems like it's a fridge issue, not a beer one.

I actually put them back in the fridge to see if they thaw out overnight. Will definitely keep an eye on them. Thanks for the info everyone!

If a CAN feels "soft" after being cooled/refrigerated, where it was solid at room temp, it is usually due to an underfill. These CANs should be taken back to the place of purchase for replacement/refund. If there was pressure within the CAN from re-fermentation, it usually manifests itself in a "pooching" out of the lid (top of the CAN). If pooching occurs at room temperature, I recommend IMMEDIATE refrigeration, followed by CANsumption at the earliest opportunity. I do not think that your reefer temp is the issue here.

I'm confused. So they were in the fridge, possibly Frozen them in the trash. Now back in your fridge? Just open one up and see what happens in your garage or over the sink? What are these mysterious 'hard cans' anyway? The world wants to know.

Yes of course. The iconic shower beer I've heard referenced (but not explained) on BA.

Put them in a small cooler without ice for a day. No reason to leave them in the fridge and risk having a big mess to clean

For those asking these are Other Half cans from the Galaxy/Get Wheated release. They seem to have thawed out overnight but are now back to being very soft. Must have been an under fill.

Just had this happen today with a 6 of Milly's Oatmeal Stout from Stark Brewing. After chilling the sides of the cans have some flex to them when you hold them that wasn't there when they were room temp. I've not experienced that before. It's just slightly noticeable but I was wondering about it. I'm going to do the noble thing and drink them for their own good.
