I'm looking to make a picture to hang with beer caps. I am almost done collecting enough unbent caps to get started but am not sure how I'm going to mount the caps. I know some people on here have done this with some amazing results, can anyone share how they set and mount the caps? Thanks in advance!
What are you mounting them to? Could always do thick cardboard and glue to mount them to whatever surface you choose.
Instead of mounting caps for art mosaics, etc. I make magnets with my caps, but the mounting process still can be the same thing. I glue a balsa wood spacer to fill the depth of the cap, then I glue the magnet to the spacer. Balsa is lightweight, and takes the glue well. I use silicone sealer adhesive in a caulk gun. (Hot glue would probably work very well too.) You can get 3' balsa strips at Hobby Lobby or Michael's that are a three-eighth inch wide by a quarter inch thick for a dollar or so. There are other width and thickness dimensions available if you prefer something different. I get 4-5 of them at a time and clamp them together while standing on edge, then cut them into three-eights to half inch pieces (4-5 at a time) using a fine-blade saw (hack saw works well). **Don't try to use a power saw because your fingers are going to be too close to the cutting point in order to stabilize the wood.**
