A visit to Cascadia is a nice vacation. Depending on what your non-beer interests are, you can do the ocean, islands mountains, cities, deserts and rainforests. Beer is very ingrained into our culture, so that's the easy part. If you decide to come up, post a thread in the Northwest forums and we'll get ya set right up.

I'm going on a Cali Baseball/Brewery road trip this summer. Current plans are to hit games at all five major league stadiums, and hit some of my favorite breweries out there such as RR, The Bruery, and Firestone Walker, to name a few. We're starting the trip up in the bay area and working our way down to San Diego over the course of a week.

I can't stop thinking about it. It's consuming me.

This. I do this every year. Belgium is bar none. I can't wait to go back in September

Belgium is the best beer-cation location imo. You can throw a trip to Stocholm in there if possible or even hit Rome which has some excellent beer bars.

I totally agree with everything you've said, but nobody outside of Cascadia knows where the hell that is (evidenced by our Texas friend's amusing lack of geographical knowledge).

Soon you'll be extolling the virtues of the Salish Sea...

I second this and I also live in San Diego.

Wife and I did Portland last summer. I'm counting the days until we go back. I'm heading back to Bandon Dunes in August...first place I ever had Jubel 2010 (on tap) and it put me on a quest to find more of it here in SD. Luckily, I was very successful.

Hello. Yes of course, you are correct beertunes, my bad. Texas is the largest in the continental US.

On a different subject, I think it may be just me, but with this new software I don't know if some people don't see posts as clearly as before or if I am just not understaning some people's posts. On this thread, kdmcguire10 talked about Michigan as a destination which I had already pointed out prior to him. Now I don't understand if he just didn't see my post and he thinks he's pointing out Michigan for the first time, or if he concurs and also thinks it's a good destination. This has happened to me about three times now in the last week on different threads, where people mention something I just mentioned before and by their response it seems they didn't read mine. Has anybody else noticed something similar?

I actually lived in Belgium for 6 months - everywhere you walk is a beer-cation in Belgium. Boy do I miss those days...

I am liking the Northern-Cali/Oregon ideas. My significant other enjoys wines so we could do a Napa valley stint for a bit.

i live in the denver metro area and every day is a beercation. if you can swing it come out for GABF week and hit all the breweries. almost every one of them drops something amazing the week prior to the fest. hit up www.coloradobeer.org and get an idea of just how many breweries we've got. add that to the fact that there are so many non-beer tourist attractions in our mountains here as well as our cities and it turns into a great vacation for the whole family.

Well, the Salish Sea is where our islands are:slight_smile:. For clarification, Cascadia is roughly the area from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean, and from the U.S./Canada border to the Oregon/Cali border. Sadly, Bend, OR is a bit too far on the dry side to be in the Republic of Cascadia, but I'm going to propose an amendment to annex them. We'll give them Bellevue in exchange.

I went to Denver with the wife to celebrate our first year of marriage. We went to a lot of cool places and drank a lot of good beer. It was also nice that the Dodgers beat the Rockies for the one game we went to.

If you can get Bend in exchange for Bellevue, you'll have accomplished the greatest land deal since the Louisiana Purchaseor even perhaps the "purchase" of Manhattan for $24 worth of beads... Maybe just get the Bros to recognize the NW as its own beer-producing region first, that's a bit more realistic.

Every year my girlfriend and I take several "beer-cations" to attend beer releases across the country. The big ones we hit last year were BA Hunahpu's, Darkness and Three Floyds XV Anniversary. Looking forward to expanding the list this year!

portland is great because a lot of the breweries have public ale houses in the city, and public transportation will take you everywhere. if you get a car go to seattle, and do not miss https://www.facebook.com/pages/Epic-Ales/53692664596!!!!!

san diego is great because all the breweries are really within an hourish or so of each other, and if you plan your routes you can hit up 4 in way day easily

I have never done a vacation based around beer. I always plan a trip based on a trail system or mountain range, and then find the beer for that area and stock up for the camp site. There is nothing better then beer around a latenight campfire in the woods after a 12 hour day of riding. There is no better sleep either.

I'm thinking of going with a couple friends on that Michigan/Indiana/Illinois trip. I kind of want to visit Chicago since I've never been, and I want to hit up Bell's, Founders, FFF, and GI would be a nice addition I hadn't thought of depending on how long a trip we decide to take. Also, DFH since that's not far (~190 mi) and it's at the beach anyway.

Did you have a planned route or attack? I'm heading there in April, probably 2 or 3 days. (I'm assuming Portland, OR...although Maine is very nice)
