I hate to make another "I'm coming to Chicago..." thread, but I need help with a hotel. My wife and I are coming up for our anniversary in October and I would like a suggestion for a nice hotel in a nice area that is "centrally located" to the popular beer spots, i.e. Half Acre, Revolution, Goose Island, etc.

I've stayed at the Public Hotel before, and while it is a nice place, it was a little out of the way. This time I want to be in the mix, preferably where we can walk around (safely) and bar hop as well.

    Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Looks like City Suites on Belmont Ave is a good option. Only a couple miles from each spot, and walking distance to Goose Island Wrigley. Plus, close to the train.

    Opinions? OK part of town?

What type of bar/nightlife are you looking for? That area in particular, is for the most part straight out of college type bars and sports bars (minus Sheffields and Gingerman).

If you are willing to hop the train or take cabs/uber I would personally stay closer to downtown. You can easily get anywhere you need to and there are great spots west and south (beyond being North). Additionally, Goose now has their brewpub on Fulton in the West Loop.

Below are a few spots I recommend when people head out this way that I have posted elsewhere.

Piece Pizza - They brew as well and its great pizza
Marias Packaged Goods - Lots of Marz and Pipeworks offerings
Villains - Opened a few months ago and has a crazy Mikeller lineup
Lone Wolf - Great 3 Floyds selection
Hopleaf - Tons of great beer and a worth the visit

Looking for more of an upscale/sophisticated atmosphere, which Lone Wolf appears to have. Cabs/Uber are not a problem either. Not opposed to a place like Sheffield's either.

I stayed there a couple of months ago and liked it, but we were going to a concert at the Vic, which is right around the corner.

I'd stay in River North, as it's easy to get to a lot of places on the El/taxi/Uber and as chicagogooner noted, the bar scene right around City Suites isn't that great. Also, crosstown traffic can make it difficult to get from Lakeview (City Suites) to Logan Square (Revolution) quickly. It's super easy on the Blue Line.

Agreed with @flurker on this, or check out the West Loop. If you are looking for more upscale don't bother going out in Wrigley IMO for bars/food.

Fair enough, thanks guys. Sounds like where I stayed before (Public) is where I want to stay again.

You could go closer to the river for better transit access. I really like the James and the Monaco. The Monaco's bar has a small but solid selection of local beers and I often stop there for a beer on my way to the train.

If you can book a room, consider Longman & Eagle. Great bar downstairs and well situated for good beer stops in the Logan Square/Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhoods.

Just be sure to review the room photos online -- note the bathrooms. Not exactly a lot of privacy, which could be a concern for some people.

If the Longman & Eagle rooms are booked (which is likely), I suggest Air BnB.
