Same, only got one vote. I was planning on voting for Durango until it wins

Maybe I cleared my history in between votes earlier, because I definitely voted twice for Portland. In any case, I just cast a vote for Bend on your behalf.

pretty much. asheville wins every year because of its thriving breweries that no one can name.

Even assuming people could only vote once, it's still ridiculous to select the winner from a single round plurality vote of 31 cities.

No matter how many times you let people vote, it's going to come down to whoever can muster the most locals to stuff the virtual ballot box. It's a meaningless award, and the vast majority of people are going to vote for their city. Most of the place on this list are great beer cities, and they all have their charms, but it's too ill-defined to make a point (or any real difference). Are you voting on most breweries within a city, most "world class" breweries within a city, best beer culture in a city, or what? It doesn't say. In any objective assessment I'd put Minneapolis ahead of most of the places on this list, and they don't stand a chance because no one there gives a shit.

If you could somehow restrict the voting to people who had visited all the potential candidates I'm sure the outcome would be different, but as it stands it's probably going to come down to Grand Rapids or Asheville. It'll give them some bragging rights when their local brewers guild puts out press releases, but that's about it.

Meanwhile, I'm going to walk to the shitty dive bar a few blocks from my house, play Indiana Jones pinball, and sip on some Red Chair, Sumpin Sumpin, or Ice Axe IPA. Actually, I'm kind of hungry, so maybe I'll go to Katie O'Brien's and have a pint of Widmer Raspberry Imp. Stout and a plate full of eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon...

It goes by IP adress according to the article, if you cared to read it, which is the most any online poll can do. I was only allowed to vote once. If someone is using some sort of proxy or multiple computers to vote, well no one can control that. Its also worth noting that a number of local papers picked up the article increasing traffic from certain cities.

It wasn't a single round of voting. They recieved nearly 7000 nominations and selected the top.

    It does say:

’ve mentioned this several times in the past, BeerCity USA is about community pride. It’s not just about beer. It’s very different than other polls that rate beer on viral popularity, hops, brand presence, sales, size of brewery, number of breweries, volume produced, volume consumed, ingredients used or bottom line accounting. BeerCity USA is about showcasing what is really driving the American craft beer phenomenon we are all enjoying. It’s about the view on main street, grass roots, community support; it’s not about mainstream data, averages and statistics.

Exactly (also agree about your comment concerning Minneapolis, which is greatly under-rated IMHO).

That's it, rub it in, rub it in... You don't even want to know what shitty dive bars here in Baltimore serve.

Because some of us like fun. And fun to me is being proud of my community, and feeling a wee bit of joy in our victory. (Even if it is a tie.)

Weird. When I first read this, for some reason I subconsciously substituted an L for the T in "tie"...
At least we can all stop arguing about this question, now that it has been settled for good.
