I'm really thrilled that Grand Rapids came through and that michigan had a great showing overall in the vote, but kind of bummed at the same time at the very negative tone the comments took on the voting site. Regardless, I'll be at the HopCat on monday and should be a mess.
Some people are pissed over here! http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-city-usa-2013-final-result.89165/page-2#post-1306803
People are just clowns. It's like they lost a world war or something. I think these haters would be furious if they didnt have access to these breweries.
This poll is more about who has the best promotional people for this and can get more the most people to vote as opposed to best beer city. The fact is if you combined the amount of votes from the top 8 states with over 1000 votes than doubled them, you would have roughly the amount of votes from just Michigan alone. That says it all. I am from Michigan and would love nothing more than to have this, but I am realist. The top 8 states from which over 1,000 votes were cast were: Michigan 29,172 North Carolina 4,281 Florida 2,595 South Carolina 2,414 California 1,698 Ohio 1,263 Illinois 1,157 Virginia 1,157
Already linked to it, but the response to that is: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-city-usa-2013-final-result.89165/page-2#post-1306803
Of course Michigan is the best. I know of some breweries outside of the state, but I tend to drink a lot of Michigan beer -- I find it hard to believe that any state would be close to the number of quality breweries that Michigan has... except maybe California.
