Picnic Lightning is $13.99. It's no longer the beer it once was, but still a pretty good deal. That is a huge price slump, I hope they are doing well.

I still prefer Madewest Hazy for shelf hazy, particularly for 9.99, but if they can get Starfish on shelf it might good to mix it up.

West Coast Weekend vibe seems consistently good and well priced, Madewest Pale is excellent and spectacular for 7.99 a four pack, but very hard to land fresh. Port seasonal releases are often excellent. Other than that, Mayberry and Amalgamator remain the best steady deals.

I really, really hope Popfuji hits the shelves at a reduced price.

Which branch did you see this at? Westwood Village?

Yep. It is also good they allow you to grab single cans. Canned April 6th, so not too bad.

I'll have to visit that store now while traffic is subdued. I really like Picnic Lightning, haven't had it in a while.

If you haven't tried Madewest Hazy, grab a few. Canned 4/20, and 9.99 a 4-pack. They are the best widely available hazy in LA imo.

It’s been awhile since I last had PL. Total Wine has it for 14.5. My local has it around $15+. Both my Trader Joe’s doesn’t stock their cans/bottles in cooler. Shelf only. So I don’t bother with TJ for beer.

    Does Madewest pay you commission?

Hahaha, people think I work for Cellador too.

Honestly, I just think the beer community is extremely impressionable and they are not generally good judges of quality. Madewest hazy is way better than its price tag or reputation would suggest. Their Pale is arguably better.

With the exception of some outliers, I don’t quite agree with your opinion of the beer community as a whole, and I somewhat agree with your opinion of Madewest hazy. But I completely agree with your opinion of Madewest Pale Ale. When fresh, that Pale is as good as any I’ve had. And when considering it’s price and availability, it’s probably the best Pale Ale around.

    Isn’t Trader Joe’s a supermarket?

I don’t buy beer from TJs for the same reason.

I have had no problems with beer tasting as it should as long as it is fresh.

Madewest is a solid beer for the price. Hazy Little Thing is still my go to grocery store beer though.

I can't believe you prefer HLT to Madewest haze. :S

If it is an availability-price thing sure, but quality wise, they are quite far apart.

Ah, luckily "mine" still offers a decent amount of their shelf beer selections in the back cooler. Just gotta ask them to go grab it for ya. They always seem to have reasonably fresh Swami's and typically the newest Pizza Port IPA. I'm surprised more locations don't do that, because I don't think the HB one we also sometimes hit does that.

I think Madewest Hazy is good but really doesn't stand out from the pack. HLT is far more available and comes in 12oz cans for usually around $10 a six pack. Both are fine beers but I am not going out of my way to obtain either.

Can confirm, Brouwerij West is doing fine. Picnic Lightning MSRP is $14.99 and TJ's tends to run on a smaller margin than most retailers (30%+). Popfuji is $12.99 at retailers but you can order it direct from B West for $12.
