What are your thoughts on good beer destination trips that are driveable from Boston? I was thinking of driving to Asheville this summer by way of Delaware so I could visit Dogfish Head and then fly home.

Or are there any east coast beer events that are worth arranging a trip around?

Drive up to Vermont, come down I-91 and hit up Western Mass. (seriously) then take the pike home. Trust me, you'll be busy.

I'm thinking something more outside of New England. I've done Burlington, Portland, Northampton/Amherst, etc.

You could drive to Philly, hit up DE and Charm City while there, maybe even venture south to DC. Lots going on in the mid-Atlantic.

Yeah, I just did Western Mass in February. I do want to go back in the warmer weather, but for this I'm thinking more of 5-day trip.

Last year around this time I did Boston --> DFH --> Philly --> NYC and it was great. Highly recommended.

I planned something like that... Up from Jersey, hit Ottercreek and Hill Farmstead in Vermont, then Unibroue outside Montreal. From there, Quebec and then back down into the U.S. to Portland, Maine and through Mass. Stop in Providence, RI. Head down the coast and hit Brooklyn before I'm home... that was like a 12-14 night trip the way I planned it... but it looks like we will be hitting the West Coast this summer and can save that trip for another year.

As for the OT, you could also hit some PA breweries, Stoudts, Victory (or their new pub in Xfinity Live by the Sports Complex), maybe Weyerbacher... Flying Fish is right across the bridge from Philly (though it's not much to look at right now... but they are moving).

With the brewery expasion plans of both Sierra Nevada and New Belgium, Asheville NC is looking like a nice destination spot. I would wait until both breweries are complete, though.

San Diego, Seattle, and the Florida keys spring to mind. With gas so affordable, how can you not do it?

Drive from Boston to Montreal. Visit Dieu De Ciel, and on the way home take a long route through VT and hit HF, Lawsons, and the Alchemist....

I am probably doing this trip this summer. Dieu De Ciel is very small but a nice place to spend an afternoon.

^This guy knows what's up. And Montreal offers a world class culinary experience on top of the great beer there.

I declared it so after my post. I was going to say Waterbury but as you know there are other places to check out in close by places as well.

    This.

I'd go down to Dogfish and stop in Philly/South Jersey along the way or on the way back. Aside from these breweries, there are lots of great beer bars in the area. You could also by Brooklyn as well.

I needed a stop. It was basically straight up from S. Jersey after like 7 hours of driving. Though I guess I could just pass Middlebury by and drive another 40 mins to Waterbury (I assume for Alchemist?), but then I would just hit Hill Farmstead from there and go on to Montreal.... of course the OP is coming from Boston, so my route is irrelevant.

Pfft, yours has no drive up the St. Lawrence to Quebec and back down through the sticks of Maine.

Philly, Burlington/Waterbury (area) VT, Montreal, Boston and NYC all rule. Portland is an awesome city but I don't have quite enough beer experience there, only visited for a few hours on the way to Acadia last time. My recent Montreal/Hill Farmstead/Alchemist trip is only rivaled by San Francisco and San Diego for 3 days each.

Hmmm, since you mentioned it, I was going to spend 2 nights in SF as part of a larger trip, do you think it's worth 3 nights? I was already going be in Santa Rosa right before that anyway for 3 nights.

Not trying to get too far off topic, just thought I would ask.

OT - There is also Riverhorse in Jersey which is kinda on the way down. You can walk across the bridge to New Hope, PA which is a nice quaint little town.
