I basically spent one of the whole days up in the Santa Rosa/Petaluma area. It's hard to say. 3 nights is definitely worth it, I could've spent a week or more between food, beer and tons of other things to do. The main beer spots could probably be hit in 2 nights though. It is a fun city. I guess it all comes down to what you specifically want to do.

Thanks for the insight! I suppose if I going to be staying in Santa Rosa anyway, I may not need the extra day (of course you are right, you can always spend MORE time)... I'll start perusing the Pacific forum for pointers.

Yeah, the sticks of Maine that leads to one of the most famous beer bars in the world. Why the hell would someone want to go there?

Drive up through Montpelier and Waterbury for the Alchemist and the many local beer bars there (most of them will have hill farmstead and lawson's finest on tap). You can hit Hill Farmstead on the way back down.

Hmmm, I hadn't considered Montreal at all. The Vermont - Montreal - Maine loop is a good one, but the NY-Philly-DFH-Asheville trip would be all new stops for me. It would be nice to wait on Asheville until Sierra Nevada and New Belgium are in, but I tend to enjoy the small-brewery experience more anyway. If this is the toughest decision I have to face, I'm probably doing pretty well!

Well, there is more to traveling (for me, maybe not for this thread) than just hitting beer locations but I was kinda being sarcastic about the sticks. Trees and nature are nice up until the point where some hillbillies make you squeal like a pig.

Not that we have much in CT but if your plans end up taking you through the state take Rte 15 and hit up NebCo. Captain Lawrence wouldn't be a bad detour either. Philly though is a must (Capone's etc)
