It's finally time for me to host my own LIF. This one is a thematic successor to bfg75's "Make me go "awww" LIF". Some nice pictures of me & my dogs won me that LIF, so this time I'm putting them front and center. Below are pictures and descriptions of each of the 4 dogs we've had. Two are our "kids" that we've adopted permanently and the other two are our "fosters" that we rescue and care for between their time at shelters and finding their forever homes. To win this LIF, you need to create a beer for each dog. It can be via editing the photo into a beer label, giving a detailed description of said beer with tasting notes, or even providing an original recipe and name for each one. Whoever comes up with the best "4-pack" of beers based on my dogs wins the prize. And the prize? Well a 4-pack of dog-related beers of course! BrewDog Abstrakt 09 BrewDog Abstrakt 10 Hair of the Dog Adam (Batch 82) Dogfish Head Bitches Brew This contest will be open until September 7th, 7pm PST. My wife & I will chose a winner that weekend and ship out the following week. Thanks everyone, hope this one is fun! The Dogs: This is Murdoch. He is a Boxer/Bulldog mix and our first dog. He's 8 years old now but still strong and happy! Murdoch isn't the smartest of the bunch, but his loyalty and obedience has no match! He'll do anything to please you and make you feel better. He also loves butterflies. Here is Mr. Belvedere. Clearly, he's the star of the group. No dog we've ever come across has been smarter, more clever, or have more personality than Belvie. He'll do anything for a cookie and can learn virtually any command within minutes. Think he likes wearing these clothes and posing for fashion photos? As long as there is a treat involved, he'll do the job! Belvie also loves collard greens. Next is Weazy (Weazel). Weazy was the first foster dog we ever had. She's also the only girl dog we've had. Although she had some attachment issues, she would greet you every morning, afternoon, and night as if it was the greatest moment of her life. Weazy loves to bite noses when you're laying down. She's now with a wonderful family in Beverly Hills. Last is Stretch. He's our current foster dog. Perhaps the most monster-like of the group, he's also the sweetest. Stretch is the "XL" version of Belvie & Weaz. He doesn't like to be put in crates or cages, but go nuts for walks and playtime. He, too, will also tolerate posing like a model for treats and love.
Sounds like a great LIF. I've loved dogs all my life and still quite sad that we haven't had any since our last died three years ago now. I don't consider myself much of a writer (English not being my native language), but I'll give it a shot! Murdoch de Guard (Bière de Garde) - an uncomplicated, but hearty French-style pale ale brewed in honor of man's best friend and protector. A beer to be enjoyed after a long day in the fields, be it working or frolicking with your canine companion. No frills, just beer. Belvie's Bubbly (Champagne Lager) - this beautiful golden-colored champagne lager is truly the beer of superstars. Sure, looks aren't everything, but refined flavor and timeless elegance make this beer simply irresistable. Whether it's a special occasion or not; pop the cork and the party starts! Weazy's Flowerbed (American Pale Ale) - this West Coast IPA infused with jasmin flowers from the Far East is a tribute to weary travellers everywhere. This beautiful celebration of the finest American hops and Asian floral notes is a true homecoming for those who've been through a lot and travelled far and wide. Welcome home. Stretch Imperial Snout (Imperial Milk Stout) - oh, how looks can be deceiving. This beer might be pitch black and thick as motor oil, but it's sweet and comforting like a big hug on the inside. It will give you some "sugah", but also some fiestiness through maturation on wood chips soaked in Wild Turkey bourbon. Sorry as we are, we simply couldn't bring ourselves to barrel-aging it. It just didn't want to be contained.
Awesome pups and great thing you guys are doing. Two of our 3 dogs are considered "foster failures".....just couldn't give them up (but successfully placed another 7 fosters). Super idea....wish I was witty enough to think of some names.
great idea for a LIF, my white boxer is by far the coolest dog I have ever known. One of the more intelligent "people" that I know. have fun on your LIF.
This sounded like a fun LIF! I'm a cat owner, though, so hopefully that won't be held against me! For what it's worth, I grew up in a house that always had at least two Siberian Huskies and I miss having dogs around all the time. My beers in honor of your pups (hopefully it's easy enough to tell which one is for which). Murdoch's Extra Special Barking (E.S.B.). We brewed this beer with all you soccer hooligans out there in mind. You may not be the brightest bulb in the room after knocking a few of these back while watching your favorite club, but we can only hope you'll stay as loyal to Murdoch's Extra Strong Barking as you are to that FC. Mr. P.B(elvedere).'s Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Stout. Do you like cookies? We LOVE cookies. We also love dogs - especially those funny moments after they eat some peanut butter. Hence this delicious stout you now hold in your hands. We took our flagship Chocolate Chip Cookie Stout and upped the ante. For this batch we doubled the amount of cocoa nibs and added a TON of peanut butter. We think it came out awesome and hopefully you will too. If not, you can take some comfort in the fact that 15% of all sales of Mr. P..B(elvedere).'s Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Stout will go directly to local shelters. Sais-eazy. This nippy little, low ABV saison was brewed with wild flowers, a whole lot of peppercorns, and a touch of chili pepper. Don't let the low ABV fool you, though - this little beer can pack a punch! It's got some heat to it, but don't let that scare you away. If you open your heart - and your belly - to this delicious beer, it'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Uncaged Wild Ale. We took our unfiltered blonde ale recipe, but gave it a bit of a twist. This time we left the wort in our newly installed coolship overnight to cool down. By doing so, we invited the region's local wild yeast and microflora in to play and leave their stamp on this delicious brew. We put this batch into white wine barrels for some extended aging, but this wild beast refused to be contained! Three of the eight barrels we filled sprung leaks! Fortunately, those five remaining barrels turned into this delicious nectar you now hold in your hands. Like it's stay in the barrels, we don't think you'll let it sit in the bottle for very long.
"Murdochtoberfest" - Currenty on tap...or wait, no...not til October, I got confused. "Belvedere's Tears" - Inspired by the day the treat dish went empty "Weazy's Warriors" - An all-Warrior hopped IPA "Fetch, Stretch!" - Nothing like teaching the dog to fetch your beer!!
Had some time tonight while on duty watching my month old twins and really wanted to enter something so glad I got the chance to. Thanks for putting on this LIF!
Some great entries so far. This is definitely the most interested my wife has been with my beer hobby since I've started interacting here on the forums. Hope to get a few more entries this week before it closes on Friday evening.
Love dogs and enjoy designing so thought I would take a shot at this. Here are my labels: Great idea for a LIF! Definitely one of the most creative challenges I've seen .
Last day for this. I'll be accepting submissions until the end of the day today (7pm PST). Love what we got so far, even with only a few entries picking a winner isn't going to be easy.
Congratulations to hmph! It was really fun to pick out a winner for this contest. If I could mix n match some of the entries all into one four-pack, I think I'd have an instant hit should I ever open a brewery. But ultimately, the combination of label, description, and brewery name won this one (and bonus points went for making Weazy's beer a Saison --- that was always what I had pictured)! I'll be packing up and shipping out a box of dog beers this week! Thanks so much for everyone's entries. And some bonus good news, it looks like Stretch found an adopting family to take him in permanently. This is likely his last week with us and we'll be enjoying every moment of his company!
Got an awesome box from Rob late last week, just getting around to posting. Thanks so much for the eclectic group of beers and for the opportunity to labelize your furry friends! Really looking forward to having all of these , thanks again!
