What recommendations do you have for good beer education in and around the NYC area. Primarily looking for beer appreciation for beginners. Thanks
i did a brew class at Bitter and Esters in Bklyn a year ago...well spent $$..i think it was 50...that was an education to me..plenty of retail beer in the neighborhood as well..if you want to just toss pints and learn on the go Blind Tiger will work fine...nothing like a solid education u know
Talk to JCrider. He's does classes at Top Hops where they go through one specific style each class, and open some really tasty stuff (so I have heard/seen). Small group 8-10 people. I think he is doing one tonight and there might be room for 1 more? Not sure. I've wanted to go but my soccer schedule has never allowed it.
Here's his post on tonight's class: http://beeradvocate.com/community/t...nyone-taking-cicerone-in-nyc-11-20-21.128334/
I second abkayak about Bitter and Esters. If you go with a group (4 or 5 people would be ideal) the price is reasonable, and your group also receives 144 bottles when the brew is finished. I went with a few friends last month, and it was definitely a fun, educational experience. The staff is quite knowledgeable and happy to share their own recently brewed beers.. When I went, we brewed a columbus pale ale--it came out great!
Heading to Proletariat on a Monday night is always an education for me. Anthony (he only bartends on Monday's) is one of the most knowledgeable and down to earth bartenders I've met and will always take the time to describe different beers to you without the slightest hint of condescension.
