I am curious if anyone has had any experience with some sort of Beer education or certification program? What was your experience like? Is it online or is it on campus? How much did it cost?

Also, any recommendations for free or inexpensive online training in this area?

I think that as a hobby getting deeper knowledge in beer would be fun and helpful.

    Thanks!

Google Cicerone and go to their website. You can take the Certified Beer Server test like I did to begin with. It's like $65 but is a great way to help motivate you to learn and take your beer knowledge to the next level.

If you want to learn more about the brewing process as well, go with the BJCP. The BJCP website, bjcp.org, has a bunch of free study guides. The entrance exam and further tests are tough but you'll learn a lot.

How difficult is it for someone who is on the forums and drinks a lot of beer to pass these?

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of the courses are quite expensive! However there are lots of good resources online.

It's not that difficult to pass. If you know the brewing process and the difference in styles then you are good. There is a sample quiz that you can take.
