    Hi,
I've done a few 'beer experiments' over the past several years, and am wondering what other people have done. I'm posting this in Beer Talk because so it can include any type of experiment, not just a cellaring or home-brewing one.

I've cellared PtE for 3 and 9 months to see how great IPA flavor changes over time.
I also used PtE as insurance when my friend gave me a hair cut (not screwing it up earned him two bottles).

I've done a few other things, but I'm eager to hear what others have done!

Mixed a Bourbon County Coffee bomber and an Allagash Curieux 750 on a lost bet.

Was the most delicious lost bet ever.

I did a black and tan with Sweet BJ and Rouge Hazelnut. Wow.

I recall a time four different people each poured some of their beer into a stein and I drank it. I'm pretty sure it was FW Double Jack, an IPA I can't recall, Mississippi Mud, and a touch of a BMC beer. It was actually pretty good considering what we thought it'd be like.

Is there a proper way to mix beers? Or is it just close your eyes and pray it doesn't taste like swill? I don't want to ruin a perfectly good beer with another perfectly good beer.

Two friends and I did a side by side tasting of fresh Hopslam and Heady Topper with Hopslam and Heady that were 12 months old. I thought sitting on those beers for a year was criminal, but I just got asked to taste, I had no idea it was being done. Year old Heady was still ok, but Hopslam was nasty.

I also made chocolate coffee stout. I put a few tablespoons of fresh ground coffee in a French press, added Souther Tier Chokolat, and pressed it. It turned out surprisingly good, but flat. Pressing the beer caused a lot of foam and the beer had almost no carb left.

I did a two year hop experiment with a mix-a-six and posted the results in the cellering forum. Tonight I'll be doing a Bourbon Black & Red with a swirl of Maker's Mark and Two Brother's North Wind RIS and Revelry red ale and possibly a Brooklyn 11249/11231(Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout and Sixpoint Resin).
I love experimenting with cooking, beer, and guitar equipment.

I try and experiment with my beer all the time, but he keeps telling me he's not into that sort of thing.

My brother's friend used Mountain Dew syrup as priming sugar in a batch of home brew. I unfortunately didn't get to try it, but the reports were expectedly unfavorable.

I am unaware of a 'proper way' to mix beers. The feeling comes from your gut, then goes into your gut!
In my case (post#4) these were our beers for a game of King's cup being played with BMC. I drank the kings cup. Didn't want to mention that at first, because playing King's with craft is not exactly smiled upon.

If you really want to figure out mixing beers, I'd grab a few different style (all beers you like, and nothing expensive) with distinct characteristics and then mix 2 or 3 oz of one with 2-3oz of another. With 4 or 6 bottles you can make a fair amount of combinations.
With another beer knowledgeable friend you could probably take a lot of notes and pick things out. If you do this please let me know. If you don't, I might have to.

I like to add about 1/4 shot of bourbon into a glass before I pour in a stout or porter. Po' mans KBS:grinning:
