It was 5.5 gallons of cold brewed coffee in a slightly higher than average stout that did have some cocoa added but no coffee.
And an American beer barrel (bbl) is 31 gallons, so it wouldn't have been 129 gallons but 155 gallons. Not really that much difference in the end though, so I think your numbers are on, and it does have to do with personal preference so there's that variable. I thought 3.5 gallons was showing the coffee, but it wasn't strong enough within the stout. A different beer would of course change the equation.

Ahh, good catch. I'm no brewer by any means. That adjustment would bump it down to 4.54 fluid ounces of coffee per gallon of beer netting each 12oz bottle 0.375 fluid ounces of coffee instead of 0.500 fluid ounces of coffee.

Still, as you said and I tried to emphasize in my original post, we all have different tastes. So if someone wanted to mix in a bit of coffee to a add a flavor to an already brewed beer, I'd recommend they add it shot by shot to taste to keep it at a controlled volume. Unless you just really enjoy coffee (like me) and just want to dump in a bunch of coffee.

Maybe not, but you could put the rib meat into a Randall. :yum:

I've done it for fun. I think that it depends on what you're adding. I've added maple syrup and I've added Vanilla. I added it straight to my glass. I really haven't tried to do too much because I've generally liked the base beer better to begin with. It was a cool exercise though.

I wouldn't use a French Press unless you have stuff that you need to separate out from the beer, like coffee grounds.

I added cacoa nibs, vanilla beans, ancho Chilis, nutmeg, cinnamon, and straight up coffee beans (all into a cheese cloth ball) to a keg of FBS. Best and craziest thing I've ever done. That was the year prior to Xoxoceza coming out in sixers. So I needed my fix. I was jumping off of walls from the caffeine and coffee. But was buzzed, which is usually my downer.

I too, have mostly liked base beers enough that I have not experimented on a smaller scale. That seems like a waste of time. Although I have thought of adding 5-6 drops of pure maple syrup to FBS or other stouts. Or even a couple ounces of citrus juice to an IPA. Never done that though. Or use a small metal tea ball for adding herbs/spices/hops. I usually buy or know enough about what I'm buying that I wouldn't want to change up a whole beer entirely.

Be careful with Baileys in beer, it'll curdle. That why people drink car bombs quickly. I threw a shot in with not your fathers root beer once and it was ok, not as good as one would imagine.

Good point, plus if I remember the Baileys foams up no? So that would not do well with sipping a beer lol.

I don't remember it foaming up excessively (maybe some) but regardless it definitely didn't make for a good sipping beer!

I just remembered that I gave DKML a try recently and was pretty underwhelmed, as were my drinking compadres. luckily we had just picked up some pink grapefruit juice and one of them recommended we make a classy sidewalk slam so I experimented with 4 oz pours of the beer and different ratios of grapefruit juice and I personally thought that the 4:1 and 8:1 (beer:juice) were both improvements on the base beer. Never tried any other juice and beer combos though

Make some stock with the ribs using not a lot of liquid, reduce it further on the stovetop, chill it and then mix with the beer??

I too love a good cold Baileys but it wouldn't mix well with any beer.

Baileys and coffee is delicious though but you cannot expect the same result even with a ''coffee'' stout. Beer (Whatever it may be) is bubbly, Baileys is not.

Otherwise I am all for 'trying'. Our beer, our money. Spend it the way we wish.
