Ok I have now had 3 beer flights in the last couple of weeks and all of them have had an off taste to me. I had one from Bosco's in Little Rock and every beer had the same aftertaste to it , an off kind of taste that wasnt enjoyable and made every beer taste the same , had the same experience at another bar in Little Rock ,all of these being beers that I had not had before. Well last night while at the Flying Saucer in Memphis I had their Hop 101 flight , and two of the beers on there I have had and really enjoyed. All of these beers tasted the same , had a different aftertaste as the ones at Bosco's but still had an off taste. I even asked from some pretzels to snack on in between and no help what so ever. I'm just curious if anyone else has ran into this , or maybe this just isnt a good way to sample beer and I should no better
Were these newly-opened breweries that have not yet dialed their beers into a proper taste for the particular style? I find this happening too frequently at new breweries. If the same aftertaste is experienced with each beer then ask the brewer if they use the same yeast for each beer. Another possible answer is that the same water is going to be used in each beer, and maybe the water in that community has something unique about it. Just my thoughts.
No the brewerys had both been in business for a while now and the Flying Saucer is just a beer joint that serves hundreds of beer , the beers there were just IPA's from around the country , two I had drank before and enjoyed , but tasted off in the flight
Lot of places have dirty lines and lines that go from one beer to another without being cleaned at all. Some of the better places in Little Rock don't exactly have great reputations for these sort of things, at least during the period when I visited there every so often. You should have seen how bad it was with Chit's.
Where I work we send our pints through the dish washer/sanitizer and then give them a rinse with a little machine that blasts the glass with water to remove any of the sanitizer left over right before we pour a beer. I imagive you might not notice much sanitizer in a pint glass but in the much smaller glasses used for flights you'd have a noticible amount in each glass.
Many times due to the shape of the sample glasses they do not get as clean as regular shaker pint glasses. Might be the issue.
At flying saucer last night it was almost a stale candy aftertaste on every beer in the flight , I ordered a pint of Hop Wallop right after and it tasted great , the ones at Boscos is hard to explain , almost a flat dull aftertaste , cant really describe it
That comment was made in jest but I really never have had an issue....the suggestions about draft lines and/or glasses not being cleaned properly seem to make the most sense.
