Beer Floats?

I predict that within the year there will be an entire cooler door dedicated to beer flavored ice cream at most craft beer stores.

People have been doing this for a while. Oskar Blues' Lyons location was offering floats with Old Chub going back to the mid 00's. There's a time and place and I think they can be pretty good.

Based on their online menu, they have some beer + ice cream pairings, but I don't see a shake or float option, which surprises me a little.

 

Yup. That shit is coming back in a big way.

 

Guinness floats are a favorite in our household.

 

Had 'em at breweries, made 'em myself, though never with a light beer like Busch. I'm a big fan of a drier type of stout with a scoop of vanilla.

Also a big fan of folks enjoying what they want, so I say go for it. Let us know how it turns out.

Several years ago, Jeni's Ice Cream did an amazing Xocoveza ice cream. I bought all I could.

 

Had my first Busch light visiting my sister in Iowa a few weeks ago. For what it is it was good. But in no way does ice cream seem complimentary.

I did have a Samual Smith Strawberry beer with vanilla ice cream that was pretty good.

I am not convinced this is a joke thread but I was wrong last time I said that.

As to the original poster, I'd say half of almost every barrel-aged stout I drink ends up over vanilla ice cream, even very good ones. I personally love the bourbony, chocolatey taste of many BA stouts paired with vanilla ice cream. I've experimented with a ton of ice creams, and have settled on Haagen-Dazs as my favorite, which I know isn't very edgy, but it's really dense and creamy, and holds up to the high ABV, which more "airy" ice creams don't.

 

I saw an advertisement for "chocolate stout flavored iced coffee" the other day.

 

Imo a waste of both the beer and the ice cream!

He probably didn't expect us to be so accommodating, likely hoped to ruffle some feathers. Good luck ruffling feathers on a beer site by suggesting beer floats. Heck, we've had threads in praise of beer slushies lol.
