So if a brewery won awards for a beer that it says on its website includes only citra, mosaic and galaxy and the beer now tastes like a grapefruit centennial bomb, is that fraud? I guess it would be tough to prove...

Dupes are still rating this beer highly for some reason and cheap hops have obviously been switched in.

Either way it pisses me off.

Are folks not supposed to speak truth? Do we just blindly accept a brewery's word, no matter how big or smol, as gospel? Is there not a history of "Bait & Switch" in modern commerce? Cast the light!!!!!

Centennial is way cheaper. First this brewery switched out the expensive galaxy dry hop for centennial. Now it tastes like it's almost all grapefruit.

I dont want to call out the brewery either because the owner is a lawyer.

I don’t think swapping hops like that would be worth the squeeze honestly. The margins gained per pint wouldn’t be worth trying to skimp a recipe.

but the act of reusing yeast can yield results similar to what you are saying also. Not just changing hops. It could be the yeast went on for a generation or two longer than it should have. Creating a yeast generation that may release more thiols in the beer giving that grapefruit perception.

reusing yeast for several generations is a common practice and the most effective at lowering the cost per batch. With the limited information available I would say that is more likely the culprit.

I consider myself a super taster. When it comes to doughnuts! And, yes, I want sprinkles. They are tasty little vitamin bombs. Well, their own food group really.....

Nah its hops. I can tell. Galaxy costs 3x what centennial does. And this beer is produced widely.

That would be a mistake to take a beer people like and changing the recipe significantly. Maybe the brewery couldn’t get galaxy or the new lot they got isn’t as good so they changed it up.

if a beer has mosaic and citra, centennial would be an odd hop to add for me. Citra and mosaic are both expensive hops so why replace only one?

kinda interesting that centennial hops are being portrayed as inferior. I think it’s a great hop. Two hearted ale is pretty good.

It's the principle. And it has happened before too from this brewery so it's not a one off.

Honestly I'm burnt out on centennial hopped beers. 20 years ago I loved them but my palate has shifted away from grapefruit now that there are many more options out there...

By "it has happened before" what do you mean? You're pretty sure you tasted different hops, or it was confirmed somehow that this brewery was using different hops?
