Here are some recent trip pix of places outside Munich. Thanks to the frequent posters, we found alot of great places.

I like the view in several places
    [IMG]
    Zugspitze

Andesch - expected a crowd but we were the only ones there
    [IMG]

Kamtner Alm - Mittenwald - lots of walking up to get here
    [IMG]

    Spezial Keller - Bamberg
    [IMG]

I traded the view for good bier in a few places. Can you imagine this one if it was up on the hill, overlooking the river...

Awesome pictures! Remind me of Poland too, especially the potatoes and meat

On the Zugspitze one, I love how another level above that sign there's another beer garden as well, and the lower one is just all, "meh, we're still the highest!"

Franziskaner Royal is marketed as a "premium" Weissbier, and they brew it differently each year. The first edition had a black label and was pale, and only a bit stronger than their usual offering. But to me, it was kind of weak in aroma, bland.
The second edition I had from 2012 or 2013 was stronger, 6%abv, and amber-reddish in color. It surely was better, but still nothing to write home about, and nothing in comparison to the likes of Schneider Aventinus.
Looking at their website and the current labels and reviews, it seems to me like the second edition is still the recipe they brew now, but I could be mistaken.
I personally would not be on the lookout for this.......But I can imagine enjoying one or two at such a nice location:wink:

I was hoping to make it to Greifenklau's biergarten last month, but the day we tried to go was cold and the door was locked! Next time for sure.

We stopped at Griefenklau for lunch then tried to go to the Wilde Rose about 1:30 on a weekday. It was closed so we walked back down the hill and around to Spezial Keller - closed too. We did make it back to Spezial Keller and had a great time there.
I've been waiting for the original commenter on the pizza but he and I never seem to make a connection...

We went to Wilde Rose Keller and Spezial Keller on the same day last month. We enjoyed Spezial a lot more. But we also love Spezial's Lagerbier.

That it is, just up the street from Schlenkerla... The leberkase place also referenced is indeed, just a bit farther...

I've had it in Germany, and I thought it was pretty terrible. I forget which year's version, but probably 2011-2013 some time. Even if it was here in the States I wouldn't recommend it.

How depressing. A chance to make a splash - lost forever. From the Beck's reviews it seems to be the same sentiment. How do these great brewers fuck up such an opportunity? I don't get it.

    Thanks for info though!

Actually the Royal wasn't that bad... no Aventinus but not much else is close IMHO.
