I guess the basic needs are the beer! Other things, like glasses, openers, coolers, ect are nice. I always carry a Swiss Army Knife where ever I go,unless flying. And yes, I own everything else that was mentioned, like glasses, openers, coolers (yeah a Yeti), beer fridge, and so on.

Cooler is a nice-to-have item for me. In terms of straight up necessity:

    Opener
    Glass
    Fridge
    Growler

I invested about $1.25 for a small exacto knife for dealing with waxed bottles. Works like a charm.

not to be a dick but opening a beer with a lighter can be done faster than with a fancy opener and keeps the cap completely flat for collection purposes. Just takes a few minutes(beers) of practice

To have my beer, I need my special glass, my special opener, my notebook and pen, my pc, my pots and pans and recipes, my tv tuned to tcm, and my camera.

One of those dorky IPA glasses from Spiegelau. No joke. They really do work.

A few bucks, an appreciation for good beer, and a clean glass. Seriously, that is all that is required.
