Most decent hotels have nifty little tumblers that work just fine. I know some wine salespeople and snooty patrons at various places that bring their Riedel case packed with a variety of glassware. Seems to me like a pain in the butt.

I do not worry about glassware on vacation. If appropriate glassware is available - a bonus. If not, the can or bottle will suffice. The only time I use the red solo cup is if public consumption requires discretion by local laws (i.e. on the beach or at an outdoor theatre). I have never encountered a situation where I felt it was appropriate or necessary to bring my glassware with me, with the exception of the neighborhood BYOB parties.
