Stein my friend, drink beer in something created long ago to drink beer.

I don't own one, but that's my opinion.

I rarely use the "appropriate" glass but I'm ok with it.

I may drink from the bottle if I'm outside.
I'll use pints and love pilsners but as long as its big enough to hold your quaff then clean and clear is all that's necessary; IMHO of course.

All I know is that I'm done buying those Spiegelau Dogfish Head IPA glasses. I've already went through three of 'em. You can't even fart while holding one without it shattering into a million pieces.

Well bless your little cotton socks!
The shape is important (in glassware!) because, near as I understand it, it can help you smell and thus taste the beer more. This is a gross oversimplification but that's my understanding. If you haven't anything better at present a mason jar is serviceable for most things. For those delicate German or Belgian things you may want something fancier (like a flute or a tulip) to show off that head.

Most breweries now sell a snifter or tulip glass in addition to the classic pint glass. Stop by your favorite local brewery, pick one up and enjoy.

To be honest, I guess I meant it in a sort of piggish way... but now I feel bad. Yes, I am a champion of respect for women of all sizes.

Just FYI, he was making a joke about a sifter, like something you would use to pan for gold or spread powdered sugar over a pastry, not a snifter, which is the drinking glass.

I am all about the proper glassware, especially for stouts and porters, but I have to say that some beers taste as good or better out of the can. Dale's Pale Ale comes mind as well as Sweetwater's IPA.

99% of the time out of a glass, but there are a small handful of brews I prefer out of the bottle/can, namely Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. I only get the strong hop profile when drank straight from the bottle, otherwise when poured the malt profile is definitely the majority of what I get, like drinking liquid bread.

Also, don't chill a glass. The cold temperature numbs your palate and the condensation can literally dilute the beer with water.

I always drink from a glass. As for "appropriate" glassware for the style, I'm only a stickler about my weizen glass, which has always been and will be forever dedicated exclusively to hefes. I use a nonic or shaker pint for most things lately, though.

It does matter very much to me. I almost always use a glass ( pint preferably ) unless I have no choice. I like to check out the color and the head. Also you can get a good sniff before you quaff. Also you can get pint glasses at the $1 store for ...............................................................................................................................................$1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dollar Tree is a great suggestion for @kfh227 - for a few bucks you can get a number of different types to play around with, including snifters and oversized wine glasses among the more standard beer glasses.

I will drink out of the bottle/can if I can't use a glass. Otherwise, always a glass. I am personally of the mind that the glass doesn't matter that damn much, as long as it is the right size. Most beer-pours from a 12-oz bottle should just about fill a 16-oz glass.

I do have a few glasses, but nothing really special. I have an HB .5L mug and my old Schlitz pils glass (which is actually a bit too small,) otherwise, they are all pretty standard pint glasses. I personally find drinking beer out of a glass with a true stem kind of... just too damn snobbish for my tastes. :flushed:

I do not use steins myself, although the HB mug is pretty dang close to one. I certainly would use one were it presented to me for use.

Different beers taste best out of different shapes of glass. Many beers are acceptably drank from a standard pint glass, so one of those is an absolute must. I would also have, as a minimum, a hefeweizen glass, a snifter, and a goblet. And never chill them.
