Sorry larry. Think about that. Unless you're putting a wet glass into the freezer then there is no moisture other than atmospheric to begin with. Only when you pull it out of the freezer is a temperature gradient introduced between the cold glass and the air, causing condensation of atmospheric moisture which will occur in minutes, not a couple of hours. That is when you see frost (immediate solid 'condensation') and then water (the frozen condensation that has quickly melted). Then pour your beer into the glass and you'll see that the condensation forms mainly on the outside of the glass, because you have effectively stabilized the temperature on the inside of the glass with the liquid beer. The amount of water condensation that forms on the inside of a glass full of beer is minimal and hardly enough to dilute a beer, which is what the commenter was claiming.

I'll just let you figure out where this part went wrong.
'Numbing' is the issue I addressed. A beer poured into a cold glass does not numb your palate.

    It seems you do.
And no, it shouldn't be ridiculous. Unfortunately you've just managed to come across that way.

I will offer you Physics 101, which I have had. And it's rationale, spell check.

Always try to drink from a glass.
Typically use something with a good tulip shape and not completely full

The air and tulip will help release aromatics and "trap" aromas to be enjoyed when you sniff.
Better aromatics means better retro nasal effect which should make the beer flavour more intense, good or bad.

Get some pint glasses, and a snifter for barley wine, stouts, quads etc...

Proper glass use for different beer is a must. I have 13 different beer glasses, but I mostly use my Tulip glass. not always, but mostly. And yes, I have shaker pints even though some people may turn the nose up at that. If you are drinking a Pilsner or Pale Lager, nothing wrong with them.

You are right on the money! I understand why people would want to pour this in a glass, but it just isn't the same if you don't drink it from the can.

I have the DFH/SN IPA glass and I love it; and it does improve my drinking experience. I do notice a difference from a pint shaker. I use that IPA glass for other brews besides IPA's and it works great. But lately I have been using a Tulip. I found I can get glasses at the Dollar Store for...well...a dollar!!! The way I figure it, glass is glass so as long as I get the style the material doesn't matter much. I was at Weyerbacher and saw a Tulip for $7. Why pay $7 when I can pay $1?

I can only interpret what you say from the words you use. You said 'cold temperature numbs your palate' and 'can literally dilute your beer'. 'Literally' means just that. And I wouldn't have disagreed if you had actually said 'toned down'.
Use the words for what you mean and people will understand what you mean.

To the OP: Beer steins are passe, out of favor, dead in the water, etc. for everything except German lagers. But these days, who knows?

I have plenty of pint glasses from various breweries that I use, although I did start using my Uinta Brewery tulip glass!

I have had quite a few of the special glasses, but due to breakage and my taste buds not being able to tell the difference, I stick with my dimpled 22oz mug. I actually did side by side and seriously the beer tastes the same out of a pint glass, tulip etc etc.

I do have many free shaker brewer labeled 14oz glasses. The rest never survive my hand washing. I been given many, never have bought 1 unless it was a special beer package, and boy are those glasses cheap.......

but some disagree. me I think its all in the head. YMMV. :grinning::grinning::grinning:

I serve my HB in mugs, folks like em....:slight_smile:

Just to add to this. I got some great glass wear starting out at Thrift stores. I've seen some amazing finds from Thrift stores, so be sure to check them out too.

I got a set of 4 stubby glasses that are perfect for all kinds of bottle shares, and I got one of those Sam Adam's IPA pint glasses too.

I always just use a freshly cleaned, rinsed, and dried Teku if I'm inside, or just straight out of the bottle or can outside.

That said, a buddy sold me a "can glass" from his restaurant that I love a whole lot. Enjoyed it more than the Spieglau IPA glass for Zombie Dust (which, I know, APA, but it's Zombie Dust so aroma certainly matters).

I've been seeing all kinds of positive comments about those can-shaped glasses - seems really counter to logic - they look like short shakers, basically. I've never seen one around.
