Is that what they claim it's for? Breathing? I never really thought about it. I always assumed it was (1) to aid in head-retention (via a perpetually re-building head) and (2) because those cascading bubbles in a nice crystal-clear filtered beer look so cool. Whatever it's for, the DFH etching works really good. I've seen a couple of photos where you could almost make out the logo in foam on the surface of the beer.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes this feature. I'm getting so old, I don't always know what's cool anymore.

What is the deal with the Maine Beer Company wine glasses, available for the purchase at the brewery or only at tasting, etc? I wonder if they sell them via the phone or something, I'd love to get one.

I grabbed that set a while back too but I really only use the stout/porter glass and the Belgian glass seeing as I don't really drink wheat beers or pilsners and if I want a pint I'll just use one of the millions of brewery ones I have around. Not a bad purchase though.

Yeah I've had many a time where you can kind of see the DFH logo on top of the beer. It does this even more with beers with a thick foamy head.

Get riedel. They make awesome snifters and other beer glasses.

not sure, but it is a pretty weak glass as in not a great design and not a nice glass.

I must be in the minority because I have tried two sizes of tulip glasses and a snifter but for home consumption I prefer a shaker pint glass with the logo of the brewery whose beer I'm drinking, if at all possible. I imagine it's just what I have gotten used to over the years of beer drinking but I'm trying to expand my horizons by going back to the tulip glasses from time to time. But I just can't get into drinking beer from a snifter under any circumstances.

That is odd to hear, but to each his own, I get so much more enjoyment drinking from a tulip the increase in the nose right before you take a sip really does a lot for me...

Thanks for the info, I am a big fan of MBC, but I want to make sure the glass is good and worth it, so maybe I will wait until they have a new glass before (hopefully) I begin my search for obtaining one...

I'm also a huge fan of the short-stemmed-tulips-with-less-flare-at-the-top-than-a-Duvel-glass. My current go-to is my Funkwerks tulip:

The old Bell's tulip and the Smuttynose Big Beer / Portsmouth ones are great as well... the latter might be same glass as the Funkwerks one, but I don't have one here to check.

That looks like one of those shitty glasses from senior prom. What's with the "Do What's Right" phrase at the bottom? Brewery logos/phrases should be fun, like "Let's Get Drunk and Screw" or something.

Not only is the Duvel tulip so versatile, you may be able to find Duvel gift boxes containing four beers and a tulip glass for just a dollar or two more than a four-pack.

I picked up the Libbey 5 piece set at Target for $20. Not bad one stop shopping to get started. I was in a Pier 1 a couple weeks ago, good place to get an over-sized red wine glass cheap. They have other stuff too, pilsners, snifters. I also convinced a bartender they might as well sell me one of their new Orval branded goblets before they all got broken or stolen.

Get the Belgian tulips from Crate and Barrel. Perfection at $3 .99 per.
