Yeah, but....... if the bar in the clubhouse has Two Hearted available it's hard to keep both hobbies separate.

Haven't played in several decades but seems like beer and golf are redundant, like fishing. Kinda remember playing better when drinking but I guess everything seems better then :sunglasses:

    Good article, thanks for sharing.

Fortunately I started playing golf at 14-15, so I was already "good" before drinking during my rounds. I can only guess that if I imbibed from the start of learning the game, instead of a few extra slices I may be swinging and missing the ball!

I'm in a Monday afternoon league that is very laid back, while we have a nice winner's pot everyone gets small prizes in the end and our most celebrated moments are the funny mis-hits and so forth. At least half the guys have beers during the round (one or two guys even bring their own herb of choice to enjoy).

Due to the contents of my fridge, I may need to start with an IPA/DIPA but that needs to be a one and done before switching to something really light. I mostly walk with a pull cart for my bag, it has a drink holder but my usual course has some bumpy paths so holding my beer in one hand while pulling my bag with the other hand is necessary. Intensely hoppy beers and fruited Berliners are the absolute worst when it comes to walking the course, it is a one-way ticket to Flavortown acid reflux. Golf courses are the location where I'm glad Mich Ultra exists.

There were some 6AM rounds when I would kind of forget the time of day and ask for my usual hot dog and beer after 9 holes, but they only had coffee and danish at 7:30.

    Whoa, whoa, WHOA!

I would say there’s a pretty big distinction between being a hacker and playing bogey golf! If you’re playing bogey golf you’re a pretty good golfer in my opinion. And no I’m not being defensive here!!!

Congratulations on the article! This was an exciting read as its a collision of two of my most favorite pastimes.

My one and only visit to Pinehurst was a couple years before the brewery opened but it's a bucket list type of hope to go back and enjoy a couple of rounds on their other non #2 courses and grab a few beers along the way.

Currently these days, as I play to enjoy more than be competitive I'll typically take a couple of Pils, Hefe, Lagers from German or Local Craft brewers and will have one typically around hole 7 and then again at 12 or 13.

That keeps me cool, quenched and doesn't noticeably affect my swing or game which depending on the day (how I'm putting or chipping) ranges from an 82 to 89. I'll admit if by 7 I'm less than 3 over I'd potentially hold off drinking at all in hopes of breaking 80.

I've golfed maybe a half-dozen times since, mostly for work outings. I've had lots more fun than some of the league golfers I know, since they get so bummed when they're in a slump. I suck at driving, but my first time golfing, I put the ball in the hole from the tee. Unfortunately it was a drainage pipe near the tee. Beer was involved, as it should be, and the colder the better.

I’ve only played par 3 golf twice, and I suck at it, 3-4 beers might improve my game. But I lack the general patience to give it a thought, my wife says I have the attention span of a kindergartner, and she’s about right.
