I am from Chicago and have a brother spending 2 weeks in Snowmass and Glendale. What should I have him keep an eye out for to bring home for me? Anything good that is local or gets distributed to CO and not Chicago? He is there now so I would appreciate any thoughts.
Dry Dock puts out some nice beers (Bombers only). Of course you have Crooked Stave and Funkwerks. River North has been doing some nice things and just put out their 3rd beer in Bombers.
Odell, Russian River, Dry Dock, Funkwerks, Crooked Stave, too many to list..... Use www.seekabrew.com to see what we have that you don't.
Thanks. What specifically is available around now from Odell, Funkwerks, and Cooked Stave. Looking at having him bring me home 5 or 6 beers, so would like to make them count....
Odell has a lot of great beers. Myrcenary is one of my favorite go to beers. It's always in the fridge. Funkwerks Tropic King and White are both excellent. Crooked Stave has WWBY and Petite Sour available right now. Not sure if you can get Avery's Nineteen. I thought that was a very good Tripel. Dry Dock as their Apricot Blonde out as well as Double IPA and Vanilla Porter. Like Graviz said, too many great beers to list.
From Glendale, send him to Liquor Mart on Colorado Blvd. 1. Dry Dock DIPA 2. Russian River Supplication 3. Odell Myrcenary 4. Crabtree Berliner Weiss 5. Crooked Stave Petite Sour 6. Whatever Odell 750 he sees BESIDES Footprint... if he sees a Saboteur, Bourbon Barrel Stout, Friek, or any of the Woodcut series... get it. I dont know whats left out there of these, but I do see them all pop up randomly ni various places.
What's ur top favorite styles? Maybe we could narrow it down for ya. Avery's Nineteen Ann. Tripel I still see around in almost every store, but of course I dunno about Snowmass/Glendale. Dont forget Great Divide if ur wanting Yeti (Imp. Stout), all variants but BA Yeti is pretty easy to find. Colette (Saison) making its rounds and is great too.
Thanks guys. I loves stouts, and a jackpot would be a BA one off the shelf. Getting more into sours too, so I would e looking at those types. But if there is a must get IPA or something else, obviously open to try. I like GD's stuff, but the distribute all over Chicago. Is the Odell Bourbon Barrel Stout really on shelves?
If your really really lucky he might be able to find Avery's Uncle Jacobs BA Stout on a stores shelves, but I think that chance might really be pretty low at this point.
Liquor Mart on Colorado Blvd. didn't have it on the shelf but had it in the cooler yesterday. At least it looked like UJ through the door window.
Odell - if you want sixer, I'd go their IPA. If you want a bomber I'd go Saboteur (still at Liquor Mart on Colorado Blvd) or Shenanigans. Funkwerks - I'd go Tropic Kin Crooked Stave - only the Petit Sour seems to be on local shelves. Maybe WWBY at some places too. If you want to drive 20 minutes, Lukas had Surette and Fertile Soil a couple weeks back, might still be there.
crooked stave petite sour is pretty tasty, but the crabtree cezanne saison peche is better i think. keep an eye out for it.
I would trade some Uncle Jacobs if your brother is going to bring some beers out to CO, I have some Pliny I could trade too. It is not the freshest, but if you want to try it it is only three weeks old. PM me if you are interested. Also, I echo what most people have said above. Its hard for me to just throw out suggestions, but if you lke sours we get all of the off-the-shelf RR sours, plus some good wilds and sasions coming from Funkwerks. I will try and give one beer from a few breweries that I would pick if I was taking just one beer from each of them right now. Dry Dock - Apricot Blonde Funkwerks - White Oskar Blues - Deviant Dales New Belgium - La Folie Avery - Uncle Jacobs (if you could find it, if not, Maharaja) Great Divide - BA Old Ruffian (since the rest is probably distributed where you are) Crabtree - Cezanne Saison Odell - Myrcenary (if bomber Friek [if you can find it]) Lefthand - Smoke Jumper Breckenridge - 471 IPA River North - Hypthesis IPA Fort Collins - Incredible Hop Black IPA Boulder Beer - Mojo Risin' I know you will not be able to grab all of these, but it is just a starting point. It is not all inclusive, but I hope it helps you out. There are a number of other beers from some of these breweries I would choose over others, but if you want to get a bunch of different beers from different CO breweries this list is pretty good. Also, these are beers I am assuming are around right now. Let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to get a trade set-up for IP in Denver. Hope your brother grabs you some good brews. Cheers! Stephen
Cheers, thanks everyone. Unfortunatley I didn't know he was going until he was already there, otherwise I would have sent him packing with some Chicago brews. Appreciate the feedback!
If he doesn't I for sure will. Was not aware of this but after trying their Berliner Weisse I am game for another from them.
So I need some more help. His phone autocorrected Glenwood to Glendale. He is staying around Snowmass, Glenwood Springs, and Aspen. Any idea where I can send him to find Uncle Jacobs, Petitte Sour, BA Old Ruffian, or any RR? Thanks everyone? I was really excited about getting some beers and now it is looking bleak...
Did he fly out of Denver? I dont have much experience with mountain towns and their selection but if he can't find them I can't help you out with most, if not, all of those in a trade. Let me know if he has any plans on coming into the Denver/boulder area. P.s. it looks like Roaring Fork in Glenwood is your best best bet.
