You and I both know that those users are not the least bit timid to open bottles after their planned aging period is through.

Life is to short. If you are afraid to open beers you are missing the point of beer.

That's me and the few special or limited releases I have. I'll save them for a bday or a special celebration and share them with friends.

Honestly my only problem is not being able to drink the beer in my cellar fast enough to keep up with all the new ones that keep coming out that I want to try. And I almost never buy more than a couple of bottles from a given release. I have no idea how people pick up entire cases of stuff, if I did that pretty soon I'd have nowhere to park my car.

There are 2 types of beer. Everyday beer and special occasion beer. The problem is when you try to decide if an occasion is special enough. If you even ask that question, it is drink the beer. Sure, I'm not cracking open that Parabola while mowing the lawn, but if a friend comes over, you finished that project at work, or it was a great episode of Walking Dead, just drink it. You can always get another bottle of special occasion beer.

This is my philosophy as well. Zero anxiety about sharing great beer with great people. It always leads to great times.

This thread makes me think about 2 weird things...

    1. People who acquire a whale and save it for a ridiculously long period of time without ever having had it before.

    2. People who get a certain whale they've never had before, only to trade it for another beer of said caliber they've also never had before. You're never gonna have every one, this isn't Pokemon (is it?), drink them.

my only concern about drinking cellared beers, is that it could be my favorite beer ever and then im out when its gone. but then i realize i can replace it with something potentially better and am happy with the idea of that

I don't have a problem opening up a "special" beer that I've been saving; the problem has been that I have so many specials that I physically can't open them at once.

I'm half serious when I tell you I'm the same way. LOL. I don't care what Johnny Six Pack says that he doesn't have any beers besides his most recent 12 pack that he bought. Good for him. Everyone is different. If I score fresh IPAs/pale ales I will try to drink them quickly. Stouts, barley wines, big ABV beers, sours, IPAs w/ Brett, etc all go in the cellar here. Yes, I do just stare at them from time to time.

I was talking to some cool dudes at a bar last week and we were talking about cellars/hoarding/etc. I told them I just did a count and told them my number of beers I had. I laughed when they told me that's a good start. You'll get a better cellar over time. That made me feel less hoardery. LOL.

I definitely feel the same way. However, this has resulted in the rapid expansion of my cellar - to a point where it can't be sustained. I'm in SoCal, and the heat of the summer is fast approaching (it's already too hot!). I no longer have room in my beer fridges, so the extras might suffer from the heat. I NEED to decrease the quantity, but I also feel the need to keep the "special" beers. At the same time, new releases are calling my name. I am taking a break from purchasing so that I can drink down the cellar a little bit.

    dafuq? :astonished:

I'm sure you enjoy beer already but man it just seems to me like it would be a lot more fun if you didn't take it so seriously.

Coming from a guy with a too large cellar (except for the lambic part)

Life is short. Look for reasons to celebrate and make into occasions.
I think a steak coming out perfect on the grill is reason enough to open a special bottle.
    Cheers

I've never heard anyone afraid of drinking a beer that may be the best beer they've ever had. If you're in the middle of drinking what seems to be the best beer you've ever had, and you're more concerned with the worry of needing another bottle instead of focusing on what's in front of you, you're doing it wrong.

My problem is not necessarily waiting and waiting cuz I dont want to let it go, but more of simply not knowing when to drink it. Im thinking of making a thread about it. But then again, I suppose its mostly trial and error.
