I did a quick search in this forum and didn't find much... Are any BA's going to this? A few of my friends and I are going to the Saturday afternoon session. We went last year and had a great time. It was a little crowded but they added another session this year which should alleviate some of the crowding.

Anyway, I'd love to get a crew together for brunch somewhere before the festival so hopefully this thread can get some traction.

I went last year to the afternoon session and had a great time. This year I don't have much of an excuse, it's 2 blocks from my house. I am going to the Friday night session.

Nick Digilio on WGN has been plugging this. I've always wanted to go...

Hi BA gang, This year's 2012 Beer Hoptacular is to be held this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 & 10 at the RiverFront Theatre. (On Chicago Avenue 1/2 block east of Halsted, right on the Chicago River) It is a beautiful facility. We'll have 62 breweries and over 140 different beers to sample including many hard-to-find seasonals. More info here:

It was a good time last year. A little crowded at the aragon (but still a cool place) the change of venue should take care of the cramped feel. Most brewers brought at least one specialty beer. Last year as I recall a lot of brewers announced timed releases for specialty beers. The lines for DFH and Goose island were ridiculous around these times as people were lining up 15 min before the specialties were tapped.

Black Note was a nice surprise last night, although my headache this morning leads me to believe I had one too many pours of that delicious brew.

What were some of the specialty brews brought out last night? I am curious if it still might be worth it for me to grab a ticket for the 1pm session.

There weren't a ton of specialty beers, but off the top of my head, here are some memorable beers:

    Haymarket - Indignant BBA Stout
Goose Island - 2011 Bourbon County Coffee
    Bell's - Black Note
    Bell's - Oracle
    New Belgium - La Folie
Lakefront - Vanilla Bean Holiday Spice
    Destihl - Dosvidanya

Last year I think DFH and other breweries had more special pours. GI had 2011 Bourbon coffee. Destihl had some good pours throughout the night. It was still fun since I can't complain...won this in the raffle last night. http://i.imgur.com/FYSSO.jpg
