My girlfriend asked me to add that it is the cutest place ever. So there's that.

I just used airbnb and got a great place for a great price. We were on the 18th floor and had a view of all of north Brussels and spent about $300 for four nights.

What would be your opinions on going from Brussels to other parts of Belgium? We're staying for around 5 days.

Is St Sixtus worth the pilgrimage? And Antwerp and Bruges are easily doable by train?

And somewhat off-topic, but is it worth visiting Chimay or Duvel Moortgat?

Does anyone have any info on how to get to Grote Dorst? I'm hoping to head out there on Sunday. Is the 128 bus my only option?

Antwerp and Bruges are easy to get to by train. St Sixtus will be harder. You can take the train to Poperinge but then you will need to call for a bus or get a taxi to get you to WestVleteren.

Not sure if it's really worth the hassle. It's just a nice tavern where you can drink Westvleteren. They also have a nice walking route that let's you discover the region and WW I cemetaries.

If you only go for the beer it's not worth it imo. If you have time to do the walking route it can be a nice trip.

I agree with belvedere86; it's not worth it just for the beer. I actually had a St. Bernardus Abt 12 in Poperinge right before biking to Westvleteren and I found that and Westvleteren 12 to be very similar.

However, the experience of training to Poperinge, biking across the Belgian countryside, and then relaxing and drinking Westvleteren on the patio on one of the most beautiful days of the year was awesome and I wouldn't give that day up at all. Just recognize that it's a nice journey and there's a good beer at the end.

Antwerp and Bruges are easy to get to by train. Get to Bruges early and start with the canal ride. Bruges is a great town. I didn't go to Antwerp.

In addition to Brussels/Poperinge/Bruges, we also took a train down to Dinant, which was actually my favorite experience. There's a citadel there with a beautiful view up and down the valley that the town is in. There's also a nice cathedral there (which is also fairly empty by European standards) and the original Leffe abbey. The town also has a lot of World War I history, and it hosted some of my favorite beer cafe experiences.

So the question is, if we only have time for either Bruges or Antwerp which should we go for? I really want to go to Kulminator but as you guys said this isn't just a beer trip.

I can't say since I didn't go to Antwerp, but I would say that Bruges is an awesome, unforgettable city.

I would pick Brugge over Antwerp if it's not just a beer trip. While there's nothing quite like Kulminator, Brugge has plenty of good places to drink as well and the city center is quite picturesque. Just avoid the restaurants in the main square.

I would also pick Brugge , Antwerp is nice for kulminator and shopping , there are some nice things to see and to do but if you only have a short time and have to pick 1 then i would go to Brugge

That is the only option if you want to use public transportation.

    It's about 40 minutes.

Take bus 128 at 'Dansaert' to Ninove and get out at 'Wegborchtlombeek' just a few minutes walk from there.
Bus leaves every hour at :50 at 'Dansaert'.

In Brussels take the main road (Rue Auguste Orts) in front of the 'Beurs' and that will lead into the Antoine Dansaertstraat, you will see the 'Dansaert' stop at your right.

In Eizeringen walk towards the church, can't miss.

Id pick Ghent over Bruges, but that's a personal preference and I do think Bruges is a must visit, it is a beautiful, historic city, but I prefer Ghent.
