I'm staying on the coast for 2 weeks near Machias and am surprised that I should have bought more beer before I left Portland. All I can find here are the standard Geary's and Shipyard beers-not bad but I hoped to find beers from Rising Tide, Baxter, Maine Brewing and some of the other breweries I enjoyed last year. Are there any stores near Machias or do I have to head back to Ellsworth(or further)?
Whenever I have been in that area I have had to look in the Ellsworth area to find a strong selection. Machias is really, really far out there.
Or just take the extra time to go to Bangor/Orono and really stock up if there isn't much in Ellsworth. Plenty of better beers stores in Bangor (Hogan's Road, Bangor Wine & Cheese, State Street) or Orono (Burby & Bates, Ampersands). Shouldn't have a hard time getting Baxter there, not sure how far MBC and Rising Tide distribute though since it's been awhile since I've shopped in that area. Don't forget Black Bear Brewery or Geaghans if you do trek to Bangor/Orono.
Global Beverage in Ellsworth is probably your best bet. Though the IGA in Winter Harbor also has a decent selection and it's 10 miles closer to Michias
I'm not sure why you'd go to Bangor when Global Beverage in Ellsworth is more than 30 minutes closer. That's over an hour saved off of a round trip.
My buddy from back home will be here tomorrow, I've already sent him directions to Global Beverage in Ellsworth and a wish list. Thanks for the help. BTW I'm really loving Baxter Xtra Pale on these hot days. This is a very refreshing beer I could (and am) drink all daylong.
Is there even still a bar in Machias or did it burn down again? Go to Helen's and have a slice of pie for me.
