Same thing at the Whole Foods in Paramus. The A&P is probably the Closter location.

Grocery stores are cool at times for random beers, sometimes you can find something interesting. As long as they have a variety of things, its all cool with me.

Wow, I feel so blessed to live in Michigan, where my local Meijer (just to name one major grocery chain) has a huge craft singles selection with all the staples from Founders, Bell's, Short's, Arcadia, Dark Horse, crap like Atwater, etc. I never realized how many restrictions are imposed in other states. There is a reason Michigan is one of the top beer states, and I think that's because our laws are not completely idiotic and the people here actually have ridiculously easy access to some of the best stuff available.

Of course, all this talk probably just reveals what I don't know. I wonder what kind of wacky restrictions we might have?

There are still "dry" counties here in NC but locally the grocery stores sell beer with various levels of craft. In fact, the best craft offerings in the Greensboro area is at a grocery store - Bestway. The big chains offer good selections but not great selections.

Oregon, where every gas station and corner store has craft beer (some of it dying a slow death) has State run Liquor stores. So don't let someone from Oregon tell you how advanced their alcohol laws are in Oregon one foot is still in the 1900's

Not necessarily - many "chain" grocery stores are actually individually owned, as well. So, there might be more A&P's (or Foodtown or ShopRite stores, etc.) that are not corporate-owned - similar to gas stations or fast food restaurants, etc - and also own liquor licenses. It is up to the municipality to allow those licensees to sell beer inside their store or mandate a separate (sometime attached) store. Probably, even where allowed, some stores still find it advantageous to run separate "liquor stores".

And some older NJ grocery stores still have grandfathered licenses, such as:
The continued existence of those licenses alone proves that some grocery stores in NJ can sell beer.

In Massachusetts you can, however the law states that a company can only operate 3 locations with alcohol licenses. My local Price Chopper, within walking distance, has a full liquor license. Beer, wine and liquor.

It's really a NO for PA. It's sold in a café and not a grocery store. It also varies by locality.

I dis-like blue laws, what if a person of the Jewish faith, a Buddhist and an atheist want to pick up a six pack on the way to golf on Sunday morning?

    Blue laws should be unconstitutional.

Whole Foods in Paramus sells it via the regular registers if I'm remembering correctly as well.

You need a DeCiccos down there. The one I go to has a better beer selection than almost any store you can name, has a pub inside where you can sit and drink world class draft beer with their gourmet store-prepared food paired to it, and they do counter pressure growler fills.

Wasn't Bitches Brew banned for sale in your state? Seems I remember reading that.

... but not in wine stores, you'd have to go back to CT for that.

I know it was banned at first due to the profanity of the title in the eyes of our state legislature, but it had to be lifted at some point because it is available whenever it gets released now.

Not only is beer in grocery stores here, you can get some killer deals if you're up for buying 4 six packs at a time, as Ralph's and Albertson's has 30% off promotions on almost all their sixers (again, provided you buy 4 but not necessarily 4 of all the same). Selection is excellent. Can get varieties of Stone, Lagunitas, Ballast Point, even found Some Dogfish Head recently and of course the usual craft suspects (Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, New Belgium, etc.) are all there.
The selection and prices at Stater Bros. isn't great BUT yesterday I was there and saw Grapefruit Sculpin sixers $12.99 bottles. I did a double take and, sure enough, it was as marked.
