In Lafayette for work and was curious if there are any decent bottle shops here?

Marcellos on johnston has a big selection but watch for old stuff. Another is phillipe's on ambassador has stuff that marcellos won't. Both are worth checking out at least. Go to parish brewery in Broussard on Friday. They have free beer tasting from 4-6 granted they only have two beers. The envie is great though
Nothing beats spec's in my opinion. Just got back with a good haul.

Fresh Market on Kaliste Saloom has Palate Wrecker, Green Flash Ipa, 8.99 6 pack fresh, I picked up the last 4 pak of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Rouse's supermarket has a decent selection but watch out for old beer.

I think it's Village Bottle Shop. Pretty much everything available in Indiana. I usually grab Indiana beers that for some reason AREN'T SHIPPED A COUPLE HOURS SOUTH TO KENTUCKY!!!! Sorry. Haven't been in awhile, but I bought some Hair of the Dog there once. And once they had some vintage Vertical Epics at lofty prices.

found myself in layette on business. stopped at phillipe's wine cellar.
um, they have beers there that i have never even heard of, much less seen in stores in louisiana, from lafayette to baton rouge to new orleans lo these many years. for instance, chang lager from thailand? reutberger? at least 3 massachusetts brewers' ipa's?!? what gives, exactly? is this store a dumping ground for stuff not seilling at the regional level?

I would think that having a large selection would be a good thing. They have a large selection of foreign beer. They have Mikkeller the last time I visited.

The bigger the selection, the better.
My concern was that many beers didn't have "bottled on" information, and one IPA that did have bottling date info was July 2012.
However, great choices. Even a couple of styles from Anchorage brewery...one of which I'm currently enjoying.

pps this is an example of my concern. In addition to buying an Anchorage IPA, I also bought a Pike's double IPA. I had one in Colorado 2 years ago and was impressed. I just discovered that the beer changed its name to doubble troubble a year ago, and yet here is a beer on my counter with the old name. Taste-wise, it is closer to eku 28 than an IPA.
I love the thrill of finding beers that I've never seen, but if the chance that the beer on the shelf is more than 1 year old, well, that's a problem.

You are correct that outdated beer is a concern. I have decided that I won't buy it unless it is dated especially if it is an ipa.
