Heading to the Philippines next month for work. Staying in Makati near the Hard Rock, and working not far from Ft Bonafacio. No rental car. Any places worth wandering into for some good beer?
I'm headed over near the end of the mother staying in the same area. From what I've seen, the shop in makati and the perfect pint near market market are going to be my first couple stops. I'll be there from the 19th-2nd, if you're in town let's do a share!
I have drank more San Miguel in the last week than I care to admit..lol Had the Pale Pils, Light, Super Dry by the gallon I think Heading home tomorrow, and will most likely be unable to venture anywhere else random, but had a chance to wander BGC yesterday.. Skinny Mikes -- Great sports bar (open overnights for western sports), decent food, no beer selection. Drank San Mig light for the Steelers/Bengals game yesterday morning. @$65 php (~$1.50) they were cheaper than cans of coke ($75 php). Perfect Pint -- Best beer selection I saw. 4 of their own on tap, and another 10. 2 page bottle list. Almost all Pilipino craft. Their Holy Grail DIPA was the best beer I had on the trip (though that doesn't say too much, but it was above average but not world class imo). Didn't eat here but food sounded good. Brewery @ the Palace -- Neat place. Real tasty food, average beer. They were pouring an IPA, Pils, Wheiss and Stout. Had 2 seasonals on their menu, but not available. In an up and coming part of BGC so a lot of construction around. Hope it stays in business long enough for the construction to catch up. Big Bad Wolf -- Tiny little place, 6 or 8 local taps and a handful of bottles. Listed Habanero Sculpin on their bottle list which I found interesting. Flight of 3 costs $320 (~$7-8), so sampled 3 other random locals. Great location. Tons of little places around it. I would his up any of those places again without hesitation if I ever get a chance to come back. IPAs tend to be more malt forward and not as juicy as American ones (to be expected). Pils and Wheats are fairly standard. If I end up back for work, I will definitely stay in that part of town. Makati didn't have much exciting in walking distance from where I was, new buffalo wild wings opened up and had the best tap list in that area, though only 1 local (Katipunan IPA) on.
1 other note. I saw no American micro to speak of (other than 3 at big bad wolf, and some in a display window at a café by perfect pint). Normal Belgian (chimay, leffe), German (paulaner/weinstephaner) were around, otherwise it was mostly macro type imports. Stella, Heineken, Corona, Tiger, Bud, Ashai etc...
