Hey I am from the Chicago distro area and wondering 2 things:

    1) What are the best places to drink good/really good craft beer in Vegas (I am staying on the strip)

    2) Are there any good enough local or west coast beers to buy out there right now to justify me bringing a checked bag to bring stuff back?

    Thanks!!!

First off wrong forum. That said I like Aces n Ales and The Draft House.

Of course there are tons of great west coast beers to justify a suitcase but go to the right forum to ask the question to see what is available there.

Hopefully beer talk is the correct one. I've questions like this on the regional one before, and I thought it was closer to the correct one over Beer Talk.

Also second Aces 'n Ales. About a 30 min drive off the strip though.

Close to the strip off Fremont Street is "The Griffin" good Craft selection and a really cool bar on the inside, all brick and you can smoke cigars in there by the fireplace amongst creepy old paintings.

Also check Total Wine and More or a local liquor store with a craft focus, for Swami's IPA by pizza port, Vegas is the only place outside of CA that gets it.

Posted this the last time somebody asked about Vegas in this forum:

Recently discovered Tacos & Beer, on Paradise just north of the Hard Rock. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Stellar beer list -- both drafts and bottles -- and the food is legit. I spent like 8 hours there on a recent trip, had both lunch and dinner, and took down a few bottles with friends and new friends we made at the bar. The manager is a huge beer nerd. I'd been there less than 20 minutes and he had already brought out a Consecration from his personal stash to share. I expect to spend a ton of time here on all future trips.

Beyond that, I'm a big fan of Public House (Venetian), Burger Bar (shops between Mandalay and Luxor), and Todd English PUB (Aria shops), in that order.

I'll keep Tacos & Beer in mind, plus your other suggestions for my next Vegas trip. Only got to Aces and Ales(the east side location on Nellis), and thought it was really decent, despite being out of the way. At least it wasn't overcrowded, like so many places are on the Strip. I spotted signage for a Yard House that was near Harrah's and Linq while I was walking outside, but ended up being busy enough that I never made an attempt to find that Yard House. Plus, getting over to Aces and Ales actually wasn't too hard via taking the bus(#202 Flamingo Rd, and a very short walk north on Nellis. also close to Sam's Town casino).

I have a friend coming into town who insists on going to Vegas.

I'm wondering if I can just carry around my own cooler with me to casinos. This is actually a semi serious question.. obviously a cooler might not work, but if you had say a backpack, and had some personal beers in said backpack, would it be cool to break said beers out and carry them around / bring them to blackjack tables?

The idea of having to drink mgd is haunting me

carrying them around, sure. cracking open your own bottle in the pit is probably frowned upon. just pour your own beer into cups away from the tables and you'll be fine.

Yeah I've definitely poured my own beer into cups but wouldn't do it at the tables.

as an alternative, just find the tables with the highest limits and bet the max every hand. they'll let you roll up with a mini fridge on a hand cart and you can drink whatever you want!

Alternatively, you can fill up a CamelBak with Jack and coke, some ice, and maybe that'll fly at the tables. You'll likely end up with the courage to hit on a soft 17.

I usually end up bringing some nice whisky instead of beer when I go to Vegas. It can be a pain to carry beers around or chill them. Just fill up a glass in the room and you will be set for the night.

James is a great guy, this location is a great spot. My missus enjoyed the chocolate death here a lot more than the main location however the main place has a lot more on tap & is a cool atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, i dig the nellis location a lot more though wish they had a bigger tap list.

So the west side Aces and Ales has more beers available, overall? I mainly chose to go to the one on the east side, since 1) it'd be easier to get to after seeing Pinball Hall of Fame, and 2) it looked like a shorter trip via taking local buses to go to that one. It's okay if there's a tad fewer beers at the one on Nellis, since I liked it regardless.
