hey guys so I'm thinking about recovering some of my favorite beer labels off of the bottles This is a two part question what do you guys do with them? And what is your preferred method of removal? Thank you!
I do that with a lot of my beers, and I may framed collages with them to hang in my garage (preparing for future man-cave). Many of them can be coerced off with just some gentle pulling, but some need to be run under really hot water until the glue melts. Some can be filled with really hot water, and melt the glue from the inside. You can also buy wine label removers from Amazon.
Ways to remove labels is a frequent question that gets asked here. I used 'label removal' for my search, but other key words for 'label projects' might get you some other thread responses too. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/search/30963488/?q=label+removal&o=date&c[node]=42
Yeah.. This comes up quite a bit. I have a huge label collection that is more of a hassle know than it is worth. 2 methods get off pretty much all labels except (IMO experience) Ninkasi and Dogfish. #1. I use a little bit of household ammonia in very hot water in a big pot. Submerge bottles into the ammonia water and most labels (that aren't the sticker kind) come off in a couple minutes. I rinse them off and dry them between a couple kitchen towels. Ninkasi and Dogfish both fall apart in this method, though I can occasionally get Dogfish off in one piece. #2 Sticker type labels come off when nearly boiling water is poured into the bottle. The glue softens after a few minutes.... Carefully peel the labels off and then I stick it to white cardstock. My wife gets laid off for a couple weeks every summer, I give them to her and she grudgingly cuts them out. Ninkasi and Dogfish do not work at all with this method. I have literally thousands of different labels... and all were done with these two methods. Hope this helps.
I use Oxy Clean. Fill up a sink with hot water, pour in some Oxy Clean (I use like half a lid full) and just let the bottles soak. Usually just slide right off. Word of warning though, metallic type labels don't survive, and be sure to see if it's a sticker type of label before trying to soak it. Eventually I will do something earth shattering with my labels, but for now I just hang on to them. I'll have awesome projects when I'm retired I guess...
I can get 95% of labels off Spirits and Beer bottles with just gentle soaking. But the new recipe Guinness Dublin Porter Blue and West Indies Porter Yellow label... even the new Guinness Golden lager dissolve on contact with water...Please can you help..or if someone drinks copious amounts of it, can get the labels off without damage I will buy them off them..!! ha ha I look forward to hearing from you
Fill it with super hot water and let the glue melt from the inside out. I've had some success with microwaving, too.. But be careful with that one.
