My brother in law finished their basement and put in a bar area. They have a closet behind the bar, that goes under the stairs, and he wants to install a beer tap or two through the wall. What is the best kegerator/keezer to use for this and what has to be done with the line from the kegerator to the wall? Thanks for any help.

if I understand your project correctly, this can be done. but there are a few landmines you will have to navigate to get this setup working properly. and if you are a novice with draft beer, you may be asking for more trouble than you bargained for. a straight forward kegerator is more than likely a better idea.

    1. a refrigerator in a closet is a bad idea. a refrigerator is a heat removal box, and that heat has to go somewhere or your closet is going to get very warm. so plan on adequate ventilation. a small vent is probably not enough.

    2. your system will be a "remote dispense" which is just saying that the kegs are not in the same area as the faucets. ok, can be done. but you will need to be certain the beer lines are kept cold from the kegerator all the way to the point of dispense. no exception. wrapping the lines in insulation wont do it, they need to be refrigerated. the most practical way to do this is usually through forced cold air through a chase with the beer lines. and a return duct back to the chiller. this can get moderately complex and moderately expensive real quick, especially if you are winging it. you will not be able to maintain keg beer without refrigerating the lines properly.

    3. you will need to be able to understand, calculate and balance your system. again, not rocket science but physics none the less and some people assume you just turn it on and a beautiful glass of beer appears. not so. a remote dispense system requires some actual math.

    4. the through the wall set-up can be accomplished with relative ease actually, it's mostly carpentry and having the right parts. which, if you have made it this far, shouldn't be a problem.

    5. this guy can do it, not in a closet, but still. so can you.
