Beer Moments

Out on a patio, drinking a Hofbrau Kaltenhausen Edelweiss Weissbier served on tap in Troyes, France on a sunny summer day. The most memorable pint of beer I've had.

That Hurricane Kitty I mention in my post, though, was a one-off, high gravity version, secondaried for a year in a Tuthilltown Rye Whiskey Barrel, 26 bottles made, of which I got 3, very special sharing one a year ago, on Fathers Day, with my best friend.

I was in Manhattan a few summers ago with my girlfriend, and we excitedly went to the Blind Tiger for our first time. It was packed, loud as hell, and although the beer selection was great, the bartender gave me the wrong beer (ordered a Bruery Hottenroth, and I swear I got a Mischief, which was the tap next to it). Disappointed, we left.

We made our way to the modest, subterranean 124 Rabbit Club. I got a Petrus Aged Pale, I was actually able to have a nice conversation with my girlfriend, we shot the shit with the bartender about Belgian beer, and then I noticed the stereo was playing the likes of The Stooges, Clash, and Buzzcocks. I was immediately reminded that selection isn't everything. That was exactly where I wanted to be at that moment.

 

Sitting on my deck at the Cape, splitting a growler of Cape Cod IPA with a buddy after a day of fishing or reading on the beach.

 

A buddy and I spiltting a 6-pack of Toohey's during a moonlit high tide on a private beach in Queensland, Australia back in college. We were the only males in our group of 12. We got three credits for that trip, too.

 

Hanging out with my best friend back home (just south of Seattle) with some homebrews of his, sitting on the deck overlooking the Puget Sound as the sun went down reminiscing about growing up together doing stupid shit we should be dead or in jail for.. :-)

 

Having a stranger share a Central Waters Peruvian Morning with us at 6am, while we waited in line for Huna day.

 

Visiting Chicago a couple weeks ago, went to dinner at Fountainhead. Ordered a FFF Robert the Bruce, then heard this: "oh, I'm really sorry, that one just kicked. We've replaced it with Zombie Dust'
