I was recently looking at the beers brewed by Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen and I noticed that many of the beer names are also song titles/lyrics. It got me thinking that it might fun to start a thread on the topic, especially since so many BA members are music fans. Here are the ones that I found from Piedmont: Animals Strike Curious Poses (from When Doves Cry- Prince) Chasin' That Neon Rainbow (Alan Jackson) Georgia On My Mind (Willie Nelson) Mexican Radio (Wall of Voodoo) Nights In White Satin (The Moody Blues) Pride - In the Name of Love (U2) Raspberry Beret (Prince)
There have been many beers put out by a variety of breweries that are takeoffs of Phish songs and lyrics. I encourage folks to post the ones they know, and an easy search brings up many. I'll leave you with a good one, Punch You In The Eye P A
My favorite breweries flagship IPA: Lawson - Hopcelot (phish) Tonewood - Fuego (phish) They also brew Rift, a rotating beer, nod to the same. I like it when they put a word or phrase on their timestamp that is a reference musically; always gives me a smile.
Music is not an uncommon name inspiration. In fact, I might say it's the most common. Regardless, a few to add. Notch has a ton of song references - a couple being Between The Waves (which is a a references to Ocean In Between the Waves by The War on Drugs) and Lost in the Dream (also, The War on Drugs). Only citing those because they're my favorite band but know Chris loves Pavement and the like and folks are always loving those references. Ocelot in Sterling, VA does a lot, maybe only song references as names. Besides being a great brewery, they also have a barrel wall painted like Pink Floyd's The Wall. The dearly departed Cambridge Brewing Company also used a lot of song reference names.
Mikerphone Brewing- 99% of their beers are plays on song names. The most concerning is the beer named.”Mom’s Spaghetti” which in the Eminem rap is a lyric preceded by the lyrics “there is vomit on his sweater already.” Mmmm, I think I’ll reach for a nice cold Mom’s Spaghetti.
Syncopated Brewing in Lakewood Ca. has a Pale Ale called “Dancing in Ceiling Fans.” That’s a lyric from the Butthole Surfers “Wooden Song.” I told one of the owners that I wanted the Butthole Surfers beer, he didn’t even know what I was talking about, someone else named that one.

Oliver Brewing was the first that came to mind. I’ve had: Balls To The Wall - Accept, American Pale Ale Shoot Out The Lights - Diamond Head, American Pale Ale Vae Victis - Necrowretch, Imperial IPA
Looking through their inactive/retired beers, there was also: Burn the Candle Bury the Sun Crown of Lies Monolord-Rust Pagan Science Speed of Darkness Staring at the Sun Beyond the Doors of Darkness Domkraft-Flood Great Electric Quest- The Madness Integrity- Morbid Curiosity Merlin- The Wizard Mos Generator- Shadowlands Wo Fat- Live Juju
Given their location, I’d put the odds in favor of choosing the name for the ship/legacy over Gordon. But, I could be wrong.
FWIW there is a newer brewery in PHX that came online after i left the area in 2021 called Roses By the Stairs a reference in a Blink 182 song All the Small Things. Carousing the current beer roster another one by Blink is This is Growing Up. By reputation they are pretty good. Some other brews: Everything will be alright, alright - Jimmy Eat World Friday Jr. - a band from Pittsburgh Cheers! Tom
