I may be way off base but it seems to me that along with the evolution & envelope stretching of styles and experimentation with different additives, craft beer names have evolved as well. For example, Sierra Nevada's core beers are named simply. Pale Ale, IPA [since replaced by Torpedo], Stout, etc. Nothing fancy, just a one-word description of what's in the bottle. There are others, but SN is what comes to my feeble mind quickly and I'm too lazy to look any more up. Now, it's more likely than not that you need to scan the entire label to find out what's in the bottle if you don't already know the beer.

I'd like to read some other thoughts about this, just to confirm that I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Thanx in advance.

I agree. With so many new beers and breweries entering the market, there's an even more concerted effort to try and stand out from marketing perspective. There have been beers names and even brewery names when I hear of them for the first time, think "Oh, that's clever." I think there's also more creative artwork on labels as well.
