As some of you know I was once a moderator at Ratebeer aka "Bierkrug" We had an event there known as a Beer Raid here in Germany. We would select a city, area or fest and all link up and do the rounds. We did this about 3 times a year. We had locals and people from all over the world show up. If any of you are interested in exploring this here, please let me know. I am based in the extrem south on the border with Austria near Garmisch. Your thoughts.
Definitely sounds like a cool thing to do, but I'm not sure if this kind of thing will work as well here as it might have on RB. The thing about BA is that it's a LOT less international than RB was, like 95% of the user base here is American. Acitve posters from Germany, or Europe for that matter, are quite few and far between, I think there's like 3 people from Germany that post here semi-regularly. We tried to organise a European Mod Meet once and that never took off. So yeah, I don't want to put a damper on things and wish you the best of luck with it, I might be in, but I don't think it will be an easy thing to get off the ground, especially on a regular basis.
69.05% (of associated locations) to be exact within in the last 90s days, but I'm seeing slow and steady gains in membership outside of the US each month. And, during the same period, Germany is the third most active country outside of the US with a few dozen users. There's probably more, but they've yet to add their location. And that's just Germany. I'm sure others would be interested with enough heads up. So, there's hope and I wouldn't abandon the idea (which is awesome and akin to old-school BA Gatherings).
I think that there is alot of work to do here. I will be bringing in a couple of folks as well to help out here. As you can see I am adding and updating Bavarian breweries. There are plenty of ways the build this up enough to get interest here. I know that we are working against a couple of bigger fan sites and even two German ones. I plan on trying to make this happen here.
Well, I was more getting at "active" users, rather than users in general. Of course I pulled that 95% out of my ass, but when looking at accounts that regurlarly post on the forums, it can certain feel that way at times. On the German forums especially, I literally can only think of 3 German accounts that post here semi-regulary.
I count "active" as being logged in, because reading content is just as important as posting it. Then there are visitors (not logged in), who might also be interested in joining a beer raid/gathering and eventually be encouraged to join/log into the site.
I have 3 new members here in Bavaria joining. We did a beer tasting at my home bar tonight. They really liked the concept. There will be another one coming soon. Later will come the raids.
I would actually reach out to you all when I plan a return trip to visit friends in Bayern. Maybe I will get lucky and plan when one of these is happening.
Let us know there is a small group of us here. We have a few raids in mine but nothing really except the Oktoberfest on 5 Oct.
where did you have in mind for these potential meet ups? I am an American based in Berlin and have a group of 'beer friends' from all over.
We did our last one in Nürnburg a couple of months ago. After Oktoberfest we will plan another. I live in Grainau at the base of the Zugspitze. Love to have you meet up with us. There are 7 of us down here.
Great idea! I'm part-time based in Heidelberg and part-time in NRW, and my schedule is stupidly chaotic (hence the two home bases...), but a "beer raid" sounds like a great idea. I'd definitely try to take part.
Ok boys and girls I am on my way back from Kyiv in Poland. This Was a C trip. Craftbeer, casaroles, cruisemissles and cossacks. Anyway its fest time. 20 Sep Ayinger brewery tour & meetup with some BA folks. 27th Oktoberfest Party 1500 at the Bavarican Bar in the Alps. And 05 Okt Oktoberfest RAID. The Real one!
Methinks he's in Poland after leaving Kyiv.... or maybe he's in Poland but just finished a dish of Chicken Kyiv? ;-)
I arrive in München on the 20th but unlikely able to get to Aying. .. :-( And I depart early on the 27th.... Anything going on in between? Prost!!
