    Hello Hello!

We're squeaking yet another specialty release into the 2013 schedule this year--our brewery had some excess packaging from last year's release of Beach Wheat so we said what the hell, let's do it again!

This year we're sending out approx 1200 cases of Beach Wheat throughout Michigan and Michigan only. It's double what we usually send out for specialty releases. Here are some facts regarding the brew--

    • The first time a true to style traditional German Hefeweizen was brewed at Short's Company was on 1/5/2006, and was simply labeled Hefeweizen on Joe's brewing log. (this batch most likely became Snow Wheat by name and was labeled on the chalk board as such)
    • According to German brewing laws, a true Hefeweizen must be made with at least 50% malted white wheat. This original batch used 51.79% wheat
    • Due to the growing popularity of Wheat beers and the frequent amount of requests for on at the pub, another batch of the house Hefeweizen recipe was brewed on 7/16/08, but this time it was appropriately labeled Beach Wheat consider the time of the year it was brewed.
    • The Short's house Hefeweizen is the only beer in our portfolio to have two different names for it, depending on the time of year it gets brewed.
    • Beach Wheat was first brewed and bottled in Elk Rapids in May of 2011 and then again as a triple batch in July of 2012.
    • The label artwork for Beach Wheat was originally created for a beer that Tony Hansen (our production manager) brewed back in September of 2007. The beer was called Smugglin' Plums Sweet Stout and was the first Short's brew developed entirely by Tony from the recipe, to the brewing of it, to the pitting of over 200lbs of plums. Although the Smugglin' Plums never got brewed again, the art was quite fitting as humorous option for a Beach Wheat label.

Beach Wheat: A light, clean, easy drinking Hefeweizen. This beer is categorized by a grain bill of 50% malted wheat and a German weissbier yeast strain that is directly responsible for the distinctly complex flavors. Immediately evident in the nose, this brew is punctuated by esters of banana and clove. These aromatics reflect similar flavors detected during consumption along with delicate grain flavors of flour and wheat.

    Cheers!

I dig it a lot. It's very classic and well balanced. Should have a nice price point too.

Pick this up when I got some more Dan's Pink Skirt. Like a lot of others, I usually don't like Hefes but damn can Short's make a tasty one! So much flavor in this brew, very savory. Another home run!
