Right in time for St. Patrick's Day, Uncle Steve's will be hitting stores within the next week and distributed all throughout Michigan! Here's a little information on this historic Short's brew-
    • Uncle Steve's Irish Stout was first brewed on October 17, 2008.
    • Right around this time, we had experimented w/ a number of new stout concepts (Smugglin' Plum Sweet Stout, Uber Goober, etc), but Joe was looking for one more to help round out the series. Long time employee Steve-O's suggestion was to simply brew something classic, like a good ol dry Irish Stout.
    • This year's bottle release also coincides with the upcoming St Patrick's Day holiday, as 660 cases will be available for sale throughout the state.
    • The label art for Uncle Steve's was created by Fritz Hortsman and despite it's weird imagery, it actually depicts some relevant Short's history. The man dressed like a leprechaun is supposed to be Steve-O. He is riding a black cat, which represents an old alley cat that lived behind the pub in Bellaire that Steve-O took care of for year's (for those of you who don't know, underneath his gruff demeanor, Steve-O has a heart of gold and a soft spot for animals), even though Joe always threatened to shoot it with the pellet gun (which he never did, even as it got it's muddy foot prints all over our cars from sleeping on the hoods). The fact that Steve-O is riding the cat, is simply paying homage to growing up in the 80's and resembles some images from a popular cartoon, He-Man and The Masters of the Universe.
Uncle Steve's Irish Stout ~ Short’s version of the classic Irish Stout, complete with a dark color, soft head, and smooth full flavor typical of this lighter bodied style. A simple grist formula provides a base of roasted malt flavors while the infusion of nitrogen adds the creamy drinkability everyone loves.

Looking forward to this one! I am a bit surprised at the low abv though. I know that "The G" is low in abv as well

I'm pretty sure you guys need to start shipping across the Lake. Trading for Short's is REALLY getting expensive.

Picked some up yesterday in Bellaire. I thought it was quite good but just a touch too hoppy.

The bourbon carrot cake stole the show from all the beers i had up there. So glad you still had it and were filling growlers.

Grabbed a six pack this weekend too. Incredibly disappointed I missed bourbon carrot cake at the pub by a week. Maybe @HopHeadHerman wants to send me a 1/6 keg for the basement?

    Indeed!

But really though. They make a crap ton of beers. Gotta be expensive as hell to do it.

If he doesn't take you up on that offer let me know. The regular carrot cake was amazing when I had it at the Great Taste Of the Midwest 2 yrs ago.

One state + one distributor = extreme creative control and versatility.
