In the beer review section it is stated that:

"Your review must discuss the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) and your overall impression in order to indicate that you have legitimately tried the beer."

While I understand the need of indication that one has tried said beer before reviewing it, those attributes don't really concern me other than the taste. I buy beer based on taste, not because of the head, lacing, color, etc... I am by no means a beer aficionado but rather a casual drinker. That said, do the reviews need to cover all the attributes defined or can one pick and choose which attributes based on what's important to the individual?

I think it's totally fine to not cover every aspect as long as you actually have something to say about the beer. A lot of times the visual description is kind of redundant, especially if it's a well known beer like Guinness Draught.

And I should point out, I've read reviews that did describe the beer and I've still had to ask myself "Is this the same beer?" Everyone's perceptions are different, and that can vary due to the situation and location. Example, I try not to review beers in bars as it's quite often too difficult to smell it properly due to other aromas in the vicinity, and I can't even tell what the color is really like if it's a less than bright room.

Unless you're just ticking (had), you still have to score each aspect, so it's good to have some sort of understanding of what you're looking for.

What do you like about it. Or not. That's the most important thing in reviewing it. Taste is, of course. The primary occupant in what you like about the thing, and drives you to buy it repeatedly. Or not. But....
If you wish to delve furthur into the attributes in the per category analysis. Go for it. Or not. It can be enormously helpful if you ever decide to allign yourself with the geekier side of drinking it. Drinking can be as much about the sight of what's in the glass. The aroma. The color, and how all of that meet up with what you taste.

It can also be used as a list of beers you've had over time.

    Cheers!

Contribute content - even if it's just focused on taste alone - and you'll be doing more than most. At least users will know why you gave it the rating you did, and that's more than one can say about many ratings.

I find BA has many uses.
    1. Remind me, personally, of what I have had and my thoughts about it.
    2. Boast that I have had x number of beers.
    3. Promote the production of more delicious beer.
    4. Educate myself with everyone else's contributions.
    4. Assist others looking for a particular style.
    5. Assist others seeking to avoid a particular version of a style.
As a contributor you make BA what you want it to be by your mere use of the site, however you choose to interact.
    Enjoy.
