When reviewing a beer I open the appropriate BA page as soon as I crack it, and essentially use the review section as my notepad to jot down any and all thoughts on the beer from refrigeration temp and then document changes in flavor (or elsewhere) as the beer warms. I then take my notes and transform them into a coherent review and assign the appropriate score for the ASTFO categories.

Long story short it can take me well over an hour to review a beer, especially if it is a bomber or a high abv stout. And when I finally finish and submit my review the BA website says the page has timed out. I then have to copy my review, refresh the web page, past my review, reassign my scores and resubmit my review.

I may be in the minority in the way that I use BA to do my reviews, but I don't really see any positive effects of having a set amount of time to complete reviews.

Odd behavior that I've never seen before. Please post a screenshot next time this happens.

Yes, I've had the "timed out" recently as well. You don't have to do anything other than just hit "submit" again and it will go through.

    Definitely will do!

That's odd, I just tried doing that about an hour ago with my latest review and I just keep getting the same "timed out" message until I refresh the page. I am using a cell phone if that changes anything.

I believe I got the same error several times on July 21st. The dialog box was from the BA site, not the standard http error. Hitting submit again always worked

This happened to me a few times and the problem was fixed by hitting refresh or submit a second time. Finally I learned to type faster.

I have seen this phenomenon as well, not just when reviewing beers but also when typing in the names of beers in the search area on Merge and Move pages as well - they have certainly been popping up a little more frequently in the last month but are not every time I use the site or even daily (it does not seem to matter how long I spend on a page on whether or not this result occurs).

I've noticed it occasionally, but it's affected my every attempt today. I go to review a beer (which takes some time), and hit "save."

I get an alert box saying "timeout." I happen to be smart enough to know what I think that means, but dumb enough to not know why. I even tried to save mid-review last one and got the message. I do have multiple tabs/windows open, but is there a reason this is happening more and more often?

Luckily I don't lose my reviews and can copy/paste on error, but it's a pain.

Edit: sorry, I tried a search. Thanks for merging, this is the perfect existing topic!!

This happened to me each time that I rated 4 places this morning. It pops up when I click 'Submit' but I close the error window and hit submit again and it goes. There was no long time period involved, just 30 seconds or so to input the numbers.

Your photo is not visible here. Photobucket policy has changed and they no longer provide for free third party viewing.

That's interesting because I can see it, but thanks for the heads-up. I'll get another third-party site involved and re-post the screenshot in a few minutes. I'm happy to be leaving Photobucket. I've never seen so many pop-up ads!

Now I can't get an image to link here from Imgur. Anyone know how to make that site work?

Check the site talk threads and other. There's been a fair amount of discussion of what some are doing to make the change.

I was happy enough when I saw the pic in the post on my end that I didn't want to take a chance to add text to that post! That was probably my 10th attempt at getting something posted using all kinds of links until I waited long enough for the photo to process thru the imgur system. Thanks for your help.

This is by design, however, it was not working as intended. By default your web browser will wait forever for a request to be completed. This meant that if there were a problem with the connection somewhere between your device and the BA server the request would just get stuck indefinitely.

@Todd and I discussed this and decided to implement a timeout. The timeout makes it so that if your request does not complete in a certain amount of time it will be cancelled and you are notified to try again. This is a much better solution than waiting indefinitely.

The timeout had been set to occur too quickly which could have caused a timeout to occur even when there wasn't a connection problem. I have increased the amount of time before a timeout occurs to 10 seconds. This should resolve the issues mentioned here but it is still possible to experience a timeout if there is a legitimate connection problem and a request takes longer than 10 seconds to be completed.

You may have to clear your browser history/cache for new settings to take effect.
