A friend of mine just moved there from Tx. What is the beer scene like out there and some good bottle shops for him to pick up some brews and occasionally send my way? Thank, icetrauma
Left Coast Brewing is in San Clemente. No tasting room yet, but latest word on opening date from their website is Nov. 21. http://leftcoastbrewing.com/home
Cismontane Brewing is in Rancho Santa Margarita. Selma's Pizza has two spots to get draft on tap, San Clemente and Rancho Santa Margarita.
Beach Front Liquor will be your best bet for finding the more rare stuff & special releases. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19728 Hanson's Market is also doing a good job of only stocking respectable craft. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/27837
Go to Selma's if you like dull atmospheres and mediocre food. Their beer selection is decent. But in all honesty, if I lived in San Clemente I would be at Pizza Port probably 5 times a week. Great beer selection, awesome pizza and the prices are good. I always meet some cool people hanging out there. Plus you aren't too far from Stone and Lost Abbey.
Check out the other places, but I agree that Pizza Port is likely where one will spend most of the beer-related dollars in San Clemente. The house beers at Selma's are just rebadges of existing beers that Firestone brews, so they're good, at least.
Since the website is down, anyone know what is on tap? I should be stopping in for lunch on Nov. 17th before we crash the Bruery.
Good recommendations...but your friend will need to drive to Total Wine Tustin or the bottle shop at Pizza Port Carlsbad for the best bottle selections which are closest to San Clemente. Each is about a half hour away.
