Since, as Lehighace06 said, the wedding is most probably over, my two cents: it's always entertaining reading responses to posts requesting advice. I know people just want to be helpful, but...seriously?

First, you get BAs who try to argue against the parameters the OP set down:
"We're not serving liquor..." "You should serve liquor."
"We're not getting a keg..." "A keg would be a good idea."

Then there's the respondents who apparently don't bother to check the OP's location or distribution areas and recommend beers that the OP can't get, just because the BA likes them:
"The wedding is in upstate NY..." "You should get some Toppling Goliath. It's awesome!"

In a similar vein, it's fun to read road trip posts and see responses from BAs who apparently are geographically challenged:
"I'll be driving from Chicago to Boston..." "Well, if you can swing by Cincinnati..."

I also love the inevitable follow up to "The event must've happened by now, what'd you end up with?" ... the "You should do this!"

Got married 5 years ago and we had kegs of Miller Lite and Coors Lite for the non-beer drinkers and had a case of each of the following that you needed a password for the bartender to give you(the password was password):
    DFH 90 minute IPA
    Sam Adams Boston Lager
    Sam Adams Cherry Wheat
    Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout

Plus wine and liquor. The cases we bought, everything else was included in the price for the hall.

There were 2 four packs of 90 minute left and 2 four packs of oatmeal stout, only 5 each of the Sam Adams.

Last thing you need to be doing before a wedding is to over complicate a beer menu of all things. I'm sure most of your guests are macro beer drinkers, unless it's a beer geek wedding. SNPA for those who like Pale Ales, and Budweiser or something similar, and a light beer of some sorts, take your pick, Bud light, Miller Coors etc, that's it. Your not putting on a craft beer show for people who probably don't like it. If you have a few friends that like IPA's add a few to the list if not forget it.

    Hello again!

We had a wonderful wedding, everyone seemed to have a great time and no one was quite ready to leave the dance floor when the night started to come to an end! It was great being back in the land of the Hokies.

Now that we're finally starting to feel settled back in, I wanted to share what we ended up with going with for the beer selection: 2 cases Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, 1 case Devil's Backbone Gold Leaf Lager, 1 case Victory Summer Love Ale, 1 case Sweet Water IPA, and 3 cases New Belgium 1554. No BMC stuff. My parents tried 1554 for the first time before the wedding and both were such big fans of it that that's how we ended up with the extra cases.

We also had wine, but I honestly didn't do the selection of that and have no recollection of how much wine we bought. Being that we were both fans of the Vintage Cellar when we were in college, we tried to purchase what we could from them. We got all the wine from the Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg along with the case of Devil's Back Bone Gold Leaf Lager. One warning to anyone in the Blacksburg area planning on using the Vintage Cellar for this sort of thing: Don't just rely on their wine selections/advice. We made the beer selection ourselves so that worked out, but relied on their advice for the wines and got a couple cases of bad stuff that they were having trouble selling and dumped on us (which they basically admitted to us when we complained after the fact). The majority it was fine and most of the average wine drinkers didn't know the difference so it wasn't a huge deal, but it was a little embarrassing considering the winos on my side of the fam.

In terms of leftover beer, we ended up with about half a case of the 1554 after the wedding (I did hear that guests were distributing leftovers from the bar amongst themselves when the wedding ended though, so I'm not sure if we might've had more of other beers left over that got snagged up for the after party(ies)). I do suspect that an extra case of the gold leaf lager or victory summer love might've or even a 3rd case of SNPA might've been more appreciated than the 1554, but we had no complaints from guests and even received compliments!

Thank you all for all of the advice it was very appreciated! Hopefully this thread will be useful to some future brides!

Next adventure: trying our hands at homebrewing! The hubby has been reading up and his homebrew equipment kit came in the mail today!

This is awesome, I'm so glad that a) your guests enjoyed your beer selections even though there was no BMC, and b) that you had the stones to not have any of it, GOOD FOR YOU! I am of course also very happy to hear that the event went so well overall, that's great to hear... it seems I got married in the wrong decade (2008) as I had to twist some arms to get more than just BMC/Yuengling, and even that just got me Heineken and another import or two. Here's to another win for craft, and here's to a long and happy marriage!

ps- Good luck with homebrewing, I'm sure he (you both?) will enjoy it.

    Cheers!

I like how you are both holding beers and not each other. There will be plenty of time for that later.
