I'm looking for some beer shops that are in VA but are close to the NC border. I'm in Charlotte so I'd like something by 77 or Winston Salem. Looking for someplace that carries some different stuff than NC. Anyone have some good shops

City beverage in Winston is a good store. But they can be pricey at times.

oh....well you said Winston-Salem. Nothing off 77. Except if you like wine.

There's not much there. Might want to think about making the run to Richmond where you can be assured of variety and fresh beer.

It depends on where your crossing on the border, if you come up for the scenic route, I am about 15 mintues from the Virginia Border in the corner of Western NC!!:grinning:

Not exactly right across the border but the Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg looks promising. You also might find something in the town of Floyd VA on your way up. I remember at least one decent bottle shop up there when me and the wife took a day trip there about a year ago. Good luck on your search.

There is a brand new beer store in Galax, Va called Creek Bottom Brews. I haven't been yet and only know about it because its five minutes from my hometown, but they have a Facebook page that updates some of the beer they carry. I know they get Alewerks and Legend but don't know much else about the place. They opened on Feb. 27 or something like that. About 14 miles into Va on I-77 and then 10 or so miles off the interstate. At worst, you could call and see what they carry.

Creek Bottom is a pretty impressive place. Not the widest selection ever, but constantly growing and a very knowledgable staff.

Floyd and Galax? Get out? My aunt and uncle live on Philpott Lake. I would drive more than an hour each way to Blacksburg to hit up Vintage Cellar whenever I was up there. Floyd woulda been much closer!

Not much in Danville(I live here), prices and freshness are not great. I buy most my beer in Durham if that tells you anything.

While in Mount Airy visit the Old North State winery and brewery. Beer is mediocre (though the oktoberfest was wonderful), but they are just getting a feel for it, and need encoruagement.

They get their beer from Foothills. The owner and current 'head winemaker' are thieves and all around scumbags.

Are you serious? Can you legally claim to brew your own beer and serve another brewery's? I'm a little distraught here!

I don't know if they really claim to make their own..they just kind of let people assume that its theirs until you ask, then they'll tell you its foothills'.

There are plenty of places that do something similar, and I don't really have a problem with that practice..as long as they tell you when you ask. The family that stole the property and runs the place, though...man...what a slimy bunch..
