Hey folks, I will be visiting NYC for a family event - arriving Friday and leaving Sunday. We are staying at a La Quinta by Wyndham near Central park on 31 West 71st Street Upper West Side. I was hoping to pick up some local NY beers (Other Half, Grimm, etc..) that are within walking distance. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers, Dave
Your only decent bet in that area is Gebhard's Beer Culture on 72nd street between Broadway and West End. They won't have Other Half (they only distribute to 1-2 places in NYC, and even then it's once in a blue moon), but they do occasionally get Grimm, and usually have stuff like KCBC, Industrial Arts, Sloop, Interboro, and LIC Beer Project. Beer Shop on 80th street was great, but closed very recently. If you take the C/B or the 1 train to 59th street, you can check Bread & Honey, which has a huge selection of local stuff. The Whole Foods at 59th street used to have a pretty solid to-go selection, but I heard they closed the craft beer bar so I'm not sure how that affected their other selection. If you want OH cans without going to the brewery, a bar called Haymaker near Penn Station/Madison Square Garden is one of the few places that gets sanctioned OH drops to-go, so you can always check their instagram and see if that's the case. It's not walking distance, but is on the west side so not too hard to get to on the subway.
I just found the NYC Shops Thread. I can sort through some of the lists there to find some beer shops/taprooms that are near where we are staying. Thanks.
Thanks for the intel. Gebhard's was on my list. I had Industrial Arts while we were up in Albany last year. I really liked Wrench and Torque Wrench. Found those at the W. We were near the City Beer Hall. Great tap selection - Had Equilibrium on tap and in cans.
stop playin around and get on the subway to other half to buy cans. its not a long trip, and well well worth it if you want other half cans. your family will understand, and maybe youll get a cool story about brooklyn to tell people.
Not a drill, Haymaker has OH cans, and two good ones. If you have time for a 20 minute trip, I’d recommend it.
Thank you! Was able to get to Haymaker on Friday and get some OH cans. Much appreciated They also had some great beers on tap and grabbed some growlers of those as well. I love that you can get growler fills of something on tap - brilliant. Gebhard's was just a short walk from where we were staying with a good tap list as well. Thanks again.
