I'm traveling to Barcelona for the first time and want to make sure I've done my research. Always love the local perspective and suggestions so if anyone has any it would be much appreciated.

Mikkeller and Biercab seem to be the bars at the top of everyone's list. Anything new that's has popped up? Has anyone been to BlackLab?

Lambicus and Biercab to-go were the most recommended of bottle shops. Any other notable spots to check out?

Thanks for looking and any suggestions. Cheers!

    Hey,

I was in Barcelona a couple of months ago and there's some great options for beer in the city.

The Eixample area has a large amount of craft beer bars - you've already mentioned Biercab and Mikkeller (Both great by the way) but there's also:

    BrewDog Barcelona https://www.brewdog.com/bars/worldwide/barcelona

    NaparBCN http://www.naparbcn.com/

    Garage Beer Co http://garagebeer.co/en/

    CocoVail http://www.cocovailbeerhall.com/

    Barcelona Beer Company http://www.barcelonabeercompany.com/

Outside of the Eixample and just off La Rambla you have

    Kælderkold https://twitter.com/Kaelderkold

    Beer’linale http://beerlinale.com/?lang=en

As you venture further left and right from La Rambla you'll see a lot better bars in general as La Ramble while worth seeing is a bit of tourist trap.

There's lots of other bars that I'm not even listing here and I found Yelp great for all bars/restaurants in Barcelona in general.

Two other places I would recommend are

Mosquito Tapas http://www.mosquitotapas.com/ This is basically an Asian tapas restaurant and has a good selection of beers on draft and bottles. We had to wait for a table and went across the road to a bar called Ina that happened to have bottles of Westy 12 behind the bar - so you won't go wrong.

Also check out Carrer De Blai - it's a street with lots of Pintxo bars all lined beside each other, the food is excellent in these places and it's a great way to bar hop and have a few drinks. Very near the street is Abirradero which is another nice craft beer bar http://www.abirradero.com/

Blacklab is also a very nice down near the port, it has a nice outside seating area to chill out and have a beer.

I didn't bring anything home with me but the Biercab shop certainly had an excellent selection when I took a look at it.

    Cheers

    Liam

It looks like LiamoMill has covered it pretty well so I don't have much to add.

I'll second you both on BierCab and Mikkeller and note that they're both fairly close to Maestro and Garage - but Barcelona is pretty small overall so everything is fairly close. I enjoyed Maestro immensely but the beers were fairly basic, and I felt that the beers at Garage were very good and much more exciting with a great vibe as well.

I also had a very good, chill time at Blacklab even though it wasn't summer (or perhaps because of that!).

Kaeldercold should not be missed! Great times to be had there!!!

I also really liked Ale & Hop but it's not at the top of my list.

If by chance you're in the gothic area near the Picasso museum (not worth a visit in my opinion), you should also stop in at El Xampanyet. They supposedly make their own beer, they told me that, although I'm not sure what in the hell that really means, but they only offer one - however, it's a great stop for lunch with a historic feel, great tapas, etc.

Finally, you have to go out late one night along the Rambla near the gothic section. With your wife or not, no matter how old you are, whatever, grab yourself a six-pack or two of cheap canned beer and hit the streets from around midnight to 5 am and just live the life that the young people do! Walk around with that six-pack warming up and you'll make friends - or just stand back and watch... fascinating, and so much fun!

No problem hope you enjoy it, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of good beer available. Here's a nice little video going through some of the places

    Hello fellow beer nerds,

I'm traveling to barcelona, and aside from all of the wonderful cava and vermouth, I was hoping to find some bottles to take home with me.

As opposed to taking back to the airport, I was hoping to ship out from spain to Massachusetts.

Has anyone had experience doing this? My wife wants to take home wine as well so we were thinking about shipping like a dozen 750ml total.

Also looking for any take home spots that has Belgians that are impossible to find in the states, Cantillilon, Westy, etc.

    garcias y salud!

Given that this message is from a month ago, not sure if you've left yet, but I would talk to the people at the BierCab Shop. You'll want to go to the bar anyway, and the shop certainly will have a large selection of bottles.

About your shipping question, I'm less sure. If you're trying to ship back to Massachusetts, keep in mind taxes. Many years ago, I researched shipping a bunch of wine back to Mass from Italy, and I found that Massachusetts would charge import duties regardless of quantity, so you need to add that to shipping costs -- Connecticut however did not, and only did the sales tax, as long as you shipped under and quantity that could be considered "personal consumption."

Long and short of it, it might make sense to bite the bullet on an extra bag and just pack it up with bottles and old socks.

Let me add Ølgod to the list. Great selection on tap and very central.

If you happen to want to visit Gaudi's first house (Casa Vicens) I suggest to go to La Rovira afterwards for a bite and a good beer selection as well.

    Bump(ing) this thread.
Looks like our next city to visit is Barcelona .
We will be in the El Poblenou area. Closest place would be La Cervecita Nuestra De Cade Día. Good enough?
I am planning to bring local (California clear/west coast hoppy ipa’s & hazy’s) with me to share. Is it okay to bring in outside cans/bottles to local pubs to open and share in Barcelona?

I've actually not ever been out to that specific bar, but in general bars in Spain don't have a problem, but I would perhaps try to chum up with the bartender first before popping open bottles. Bring a few out with you and after ordering a few at the bar, start chatting about where you're from and how you would love to share some beer you brought.

Do be sure to get to the center of Barcelona as well for beer, some really great spots.

The last time I was in Barcelona, where I enjoyed Wild Rover the most. It's also that I'm a lot of Irish bars in places other than Ireland. To see how they are :sunglasses:
