I live out in Boston now but my parents just moved to Grosse Pointe. I'm going to be in the area for a while over the holiday's and I have no clue where to find a good selection around there. Somebody help!!

I'm wondering the same question, but it seems no one will help. So sad.

Merchants in grosse pointe is decent. I hear sav mor in east pointe is good also. Embassy at 12&94 has some stuff but its over priced. Did you check the listings for beer stores in metro Detroit.

I would drive 15 minutes and go to Champagne's in Warren without a doubt, best beer selection/prices overall. You could also drive 15-20 and go to Holiday Market in Royal Oak its like 1 min off the expressway. Merchant's in Grosse Pointe is OK but you won't be overwhelmed with selection.

I work in the GP area and live very close to Sav-Mor at 10 mile and I-94. It's definitely a recommendation.
Oxford Beverage at Mack/Oxford (GPWoods )is pretty decent. Trader Joe's in Grosse Pointe, Park Place in GPPark, and Alger's Deli and Liquor in GP would work in a pinch. If you're looking to pick up a wide variety I'd go to Sav-Mor, Holiday Market in Royal Oak or Champanes in Warren.

If you head to Champanes in Warren you are right around the corner from Kuhnhenn's. Well worth the stop for a few pints.

Then hit Dragonmead off I-696 on your way back to I-94 and GP.

Awesome thanks people! I definitely have enough to check out. fAtHanD, I have been to Dragonmead. It's awesome and I have plans to go to Kuhnhenn's with a friend. I can't wait!

^ this. Growlers all day, baby!

Last time I was in Champagne's I was disappointed. They have a decent import selection, but the rest of the US craft selection is pretty average. Nothing outstanding. But they have surprised me in the past with some cool offerings. I think Holiday is the best around.
I've heard good things about Sav Mor.

FEUO I am not sure when you were last in Champange's but they just redid the beer displays and added a whole additional set of shelves of US craft. But I agree Holiday is pretty sweet. We are really lucky with all the quality beer and shops in our area.

I was there last week. I just thought that compared to the last time I was in (a month or so earlier) that there was a lot of cases and packs of good stuff, but not a lot of GREAT stuff. Since no one is ever around the beer section to answer questions I have no idea if they hold beer or have reserve lists. If they do that may be why I don;t see any rarer items on shelves. I guess I was disappointed as the previous time I stumbled upon some Bad Baptist.

Champanes does not hold beer and as far as I know they don't get into doing lists. What you see is what you get which is one very large reason I do a huge amount of my shopping there, as this is a place that doesn't seem to get into favortism. They get plenty of rare items you just have to be there at the right time to be able to score it as these guys move a huge amount of beer per week and stuff doesn't sit long. I was able to score both Cup of Joe and Blackout Stout there this week so not all that hard to score seasonals.

    Thanks for the info.
While I like the idea of not holding/reserving, living where I do I don't get into the area regularly so I miss out on some of the more limited stuff. I scored my Cup A Joe at Holiday whereas I didn't see it at Champagne's (same day visit). This was my visit last week and what has irked me.
I have my name in for the really limited stuff elsewhere.
