Hey everyone, I moved from Arizona to Louisville last July, and so far I'm loving the city! A friend introduced me to beer advocate, and I look at it all of the time, particularly the top 250 list. Anyways, I'm wondering what are the best stores to buy beer in the Louisville area. I've been to Sergio's, and through searching the forums I heard about the Beer Store. I've also been to the Liquor Barn on Shelbyville, but was a little disappointed. Do any of the other Liquor Barns have a better selection? Finally, I've really been craving some Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin. Does anyone know where I could find that? Thanks, and Cheers!
Liquor Barn Springhurst has the best beer selection of any of the Liquor Barns. Louisville Beer Store is also fantastic and is based more around buying singles as opposed to sixers/12-packs. Keg Liquors right across the river also has a fantastic selection and is highly recommended if you are already downtown at LBS.
I just moved from FL a few months ago. Old Town Wine and Spirits on Bardstown Road has a decent selection if you live in the Highlands like me. They tend to sell out a lot quicker of the limited/special releases than The Beer Store and Liquor Barn Springhurst
Kaiju offers a great beer selection and offers beers to go. Make sure you talk to Casey. He keeps a nice private stock in the back. Are you looking for bars that have a great beer list?
Little late on this, but along with Beer Store and some of the others you mentioned, Westport Whiskey and Wine has some good stuff occasionally. I'll usually try to hit up both Shelbyville Road and Springhurst Liquor Barns when I'm out looking around. I've found that Shelbyville Road usually has a better selection of bombers, where Springhurst has a better overall selection between the growler bar and the beer section. Like someone else mentioned, I'd also highly recommend a trip to Keg Liquors and Bridge Liquors in Clarksville/New Albany. As for bars, you've gotta get to Holy Grale if you haven't yet.
